1 Artist of the Month Jimi Hendrix

2 About Jimi Born November 27th, 1942 in Seattle Washington as James Marshal Hendrix. Dropped out of high school and enlisted in the army in 1959. Worked as a session guitarists for groups like Ike and Tina Turner and the Isley Brothers. Moved to the U.K. in There he met Eric Clapton and jammed with the band “Cream”.

3 More About Jimi Jimi played a right handed Fender Stratocaster left handed. In 1966, Jimi forms “The Jimi Hendrix Experience” with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. The Experience’s first album “Are You Experienced” is released in 1967 and remains near the top of the charts throughout the summer. Jimi performs at the Monterey Pop festival in 1967 and closes the show by setting his guitar on fire!

5 More About Jimi In 1967 “Axis: Bold is Love” is released with moderately positive reviews. In 1968 “Electric Lady Land” is released and becomes the group’s first #1 album. Jimi’s version of “All Along the Watchtower” becomes the group’s first and only #1 hit. Jimi plays the national anthem at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 to protest the Vietnam war. In 1970, Jimi passes away in his sleep in his hotel room in London.
