Eliminate the risk of storage waste, data loss, legal exposure and related help desk calls by eliminating .PST files PST PST PST Barracuda Message Archiver PST PST PST “…we’ve been able to quickly remove PST files while maintaining functionality for the mobile user.” Typical users tend to use their mailbox as a filing cabinet, keeping messages and attachments on the server until they get warning notices from IT to reduce their on the server. A standard response to these notices is for users to archive their older main to a local or network drive as PSTs. While this does reduce their server load, it can also duplicate storage across users as they archive the same message, makes it much more difficult to do one, consolidated search of messages, creates a challenge for backing up your systems, and can adversely affect compliance and availability. Finally, there are some retention policies set for short periods, like 6 months. PSTs prevent the enforcement of this type of policy, potentially exposing an organization to legal risk. <click> With Message Archiver, all s and other mail client information are stored on the appliance, so even if removed from the mail server, they can still be accessed through the Message Archiver. This allows users to keep minimal stored on their mail server and maintain online access to it via the Message Archiver, eliminating the need for local archiving and generation of PST files. This avoids all the disadvantages of PSTs while also minimizing mail server storage needs. Message Archiver also offers a PST crawler to search the IT network for PSTs and absorb them into the appliance.

Message Archiver supports 3 different roles – admin, auditor and user, and allows them to create, save, and share searches, apply litigation holds and export information that can be shared with 3rd parties (e.g. external auditor, legal counsel, etc.). Access is moderated by AD/LDAP integration. Message Archiver also enables admins to set proactive policies that will monitor activity and take some action when certain conditions are met, e.g., alert the admin or auditor every certain keywords are found (e.g. personal information, adult language, etc.), or apply granular retention rules to ensure optimal storage of messages.
