3. Environmental MSA Goals
To promote and facilitate QSI's MSA environment al objectives across the spectrum of school activities.
The availability and use of resources that integrate these objectives with the school's curriculum.
Accurate tracking and reporting of these activities.
The successful implementation and use of the school's environmental survey to track and encourage each student's environmental awareness, commitment, and service.

4. Environmental Topics/Issues
Ultimate Goal: To promote awareness and stewardship of the following environmental topics/issues.
Recycling, Reducing, Reusing
Water/Energy Conservation
Habitat loss/destruction
Endangered species

5. CHEAKS Survey
The survey is used to test students knowledge of and attitudes towards environmental topics and issues.
All 5-9YO students will take the survey the week of November 7th during Technology class and will retake the test at the end of the school year to assess growth.
The CHEAKS survey results will be sent to each team lead and needs to be shared with their teammates so teachers can focus on teaching topics that are the most challenging or unknown to students.

7. How can you help?
Educating students about environmental topics and issues.
Getting students involved in Environmental activities.
Leading an In School Activity with an environmental theme (1 teacher per grade level).
Encourage each student's environmental awareness, commitment, and service
Accurately tracking and reporting these activities.

The Nanshan Environmental Committee is here to help you!
There will be a monthly bulletin board that illustrates the environmental theme.
There will be a short piece about the environmental theme in Nanshan Newsletter which will help to communicate to parents what their children are learning regarding environmental awareness.
We will send you a monthly to introduce you to the environmental theme of the month and provide resources to use for lessons and activities.
We will create a monthly PowerPoint to wrap up the monthly theme. This presentation will be sent to all grade levels. Homeroom teachers can choose to share it with their students or it will be shown at the end of our S.O. assemblies. This presentation will be a short visual summarizing and highlighting important facts about the environmental theme.
Each teacher will receive an Environmental MSA Folder to help keep track of all environmental activities and projects.

9. Monthly Environmental Themes
October: Recycling. Theme leader-Irina
Topics can include:
promoting recycling in each classroom
November: Conservation and Reduce. Theme leader-Ashley
reducing food waste, electricity and air conditioning
helping students have responsibility for reducing electricity , air conditioning use and food waste.
December/January: Reuse. Theme leaders- Chloe and Vanessa
reusing school supplies and paper
School wide clothing drive and donations from staff, students and parents
February: Pollution. Theme leaders- Candy and Wendy
March: All living things-impact of human interactions with animals and their natural environments.

April: Care for the Earth. Theme leader-Sunia
Activities to help promote Earth Day/Week.
May: Stewardship and responsibility for the planet(Review reduce, reuse, recycle). Theme leader-Heather

10. Environmental MSA Folder
The CHEAKS survey-to help you stay focused on key environmental topics/issues.
The Monthly Environmental Themes- The name of the leader for the theme is included so you can ask for additional resources/ideas if needed.
