Techniques for optimum utilization of power of our Human mind
Data collected from many sources. Articles and lecture by spiritual Gurus/ Research organizations etc May 2014 to January 2015 By Dileep Kumar, Association of Knowledge Workers, Lucknow mob

Finding Happiness- by Shivani Lucki,
The state of consciousness is strapped by limitations for it is problem-oriented. The super-consciousness is solution-oriented. In that state, you realise that there are no such things as problems; only opportunities! You recognize that life is nothing but energy. The ever-active conscious mind is never still; it is the monkey-mind, hopping and jumping from one thought to another. In such an agitated state, the conscious mind is unable to communicate with the soul. Therefore we need to quiet the conscious mind. When we don’t discipline the body, we falter. We might even fall ill. The mind, too, needs discipline. To achieve stillness of thought, feelings and breath, practice meditation.

Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind
Ways to overwrite the limiting or damaging messages that are stored in your subconscious mind Environmental Influences: forms of encouraging and positive messages include art and music. The alpha state of brainwaves occurs when you daydream or are placed under hypnosis, during which your brain is more conducive to suggestion choice Visualization: Your subconscious mind responds well to pictures. Try spending minutes a day visualizing positive scenes that feature you . visualize: An abundance of money, A beautiful home, Fulfilling relationships, An expensive car, Passionate work, Exotic vacations, A slender, fit body, Anything else you wish to draw into your life. Allow feelings of love, joy, gratitude, and peace to flow through you as if you were truly having these experiences
4
Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind, contd
Affirmations simple rules: Word them positively, in the present tense. Say “I am confident and successful” rather than “I will be confident and successful”. Strive to feel the corresponding emotions because your subconscious will be more apt to believe it. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Recite them many times throughout the day for the best results and should be written down as well. Brain Entrainment Binaural Beats: use of audio recordings that deliberately alter the frequency of your brainwaves. Brainwaves are Gamma when you’re engaged in certain motor functions. Beta when you’re fully conscious and actively concentrating. Alpha when you’re relaxed. Theta when you’re drowsy or lightly sleeping. Delta when you’re in deep sleep. If you wanted to shift from stressed to relaxed, you would listen to an audio that triggers the alpha state. Hypnosis: creates us into a more relaxed and receptive state and delivers empowering, positive messages to your subconscious mind. It includes self hypnosis and through hypnotist

Tap The Incredible Secret Powers Of Mind!! Contd..
SICKNESS/ HEALTH: the mind has an important role to play in the cause and cure of any illness. Some physicians define psychosomatic illnesses as those which have no apparent physical cause. Sickness can be, and often is, caused by excessive stress that accumulates in the system. Learning to achieve a relaxed state or peace of mind is of great even vital importance if you want to get everything you want from life. Anger, which is a form of stress, clouds the judgement and causes us to make mistakes. MOTIVATION: Learn how to condition your mind to become more positive and receptive to new ideas and thought patterns. How realistic your chosen goal is will determine how quickly you achieve your chosen goal. Remember to stick to one goal per session though. Set a time limit. Give it clear quantifiable instructions.
6
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS? The trance state enables us to relax or distract the conscious mind so that the statements and instructions intended for the subconscious mind do not get analyzed and rejected by the conscious mind. Your first task is to learn how to induce a simple trance state in yourself. Please don’t worry it is totally safe and even very good for you. If you have ever practiced any sort of meditation then you have already learnt how to induce at trance state. Meditation be it transcendental or otherwise is simply a form of Self Hypnosis by a different name RELAXATION EXERCISES:- Try to do these exercises twice a day once in the morning after your shower or bath and once in the evening or afternoon The Induction:- There are three basic elements to Hypnosis:- 1)Going into trance Induction. 2.) Using the trance/altered state to achieve a certain aim.3.) Returning to normal consciousness. The first time you go into Self-Hypnosis allocate twenty to thirty minutes and remember relaxation is your aim in these sessions.
7
Suggestions the Subconscious Will EASILY Act On Them?
“The true value of Hypnosis is that makes your mind optimally receptive to your own thoughts” by Dr H. Spiegel, American Psychiatrist The more relaxed we are the better we perform! MOTIVATION: Learn how to condition your mind to become more positive and receptive to new ideas and thought patterns. The subconscious mind likes to hear instructions in the present tense best. set yourself a realistic time limit for your goal and you will reach it long before the time limit you have set has expired. use clear simple language. Use clear simple words that say exactly what it is you want! Use exaggerating and emotional words. Make sure you repeat the goal often in your suggestion. Always suggest that you are actually able to do something,
8
The subconscious mind a vital link, for achieving life’s dreams, improve your PSI and ICF
How To Build a Strong “Positive Self Image”: “Positive Self Image” is a vital ingredient for any individual if they are going to enjoy a happy and enjoyable life. How much you like yourself is the single most important statement about you as a human being! It determines how well you perform in every area of your life. If you are a parent ensure your children get plenty of encouragement, Love, and praise, especially in their early years By changing the way we perceive things we can change the way we react to them. Your choice of language is all important when building a positive I can Factor or a PSI for that matter. It can take a little time to rebuild a PSI particularly if you have a tarnished and tattered one to begin with.
9
The subconscious mind a vital link, to achieve life’s dreams improve PSI and I can factor
Don’t Look Back Look Forward! Unfortunately anger is a very destructive emotion. It eats away at you inside. It occupies valuable areas of the mind that would be better employed making your life worthwhile and meaningful. Guilt can be one of the more destructive emotions that can burden our lives. To change and build our PSI: The subconscious mind responds best to EMOTION and FEELINGS. It also likes IMAGES. So the more we can appeal to these three things the greater our success. Reduce the number of negative strokes in your life! “Give yourself a hug every morning”. Give yourself a treat. Control your own thoughts, “ We become what we most think about”. The “I can factor is more to do with your feelings as to how able you are to do things. Some people are very confident in their abilities.
10
Steps to achieving anything you want out of life.
Firstly know exactly what you want: : Setting goals is a way of crystallizing your aims and desires in life. The goal has a time limit. It is detailed and not woolly. Visualization is very important in impressing the subconscious mind. Make Lists And Get Organised! Secondly, and most importantly of all, believe that you are worth it. Thirdly, know that you are capable of achieving it. Lastly go out there and get it. Take responsibility for you own life and stop blaming others for the state of your life. The subconscious and conscious minds are a team. To succeed in life you need to have good supply. A strong Positive self image and a strong “I Can Factor”.
11
Longevity of life and mind relationship
AGEING: Personal characteristics centenarians have in common that were considered important factors to reach such a great age : 1. An ability to react to change in their life with a positive adaptability.2. A sense of being free from anxiety.3. Being able to create.4. An ability to react positively to new things in their life.5. A zest for life, a desire to live. Out of all of this research the single most important factor was how they reacted to stress 1.Forget about your chronological age. It’s irrelevant Only think about your psychological age! 2. Improve your diet. Eat as much fresh produce as possible. 3. Take regular exercise. Don’t be a couch potato! 4. Use Self-Hypnosis to re-program your mind to be young and full of the zest for life. 5. Practice periods of quiet meditation. Just let the body rest. Completely still.
12
Longevity of life and mind relationship, contd…
Every cell in our body is affected by our thoughts. When you are happy, what is the feeling you get? You feel that something in you is expanding, isn’t it? And when you are upset, you find that something in you is shrinking; the energy in you shrinks and that is when you feel uncomfortable. When the energy expands, you feel happy, elevated and comfortable. And this particular phenomenon indicates that our body is inside the mind, and not the other way around. After the age of thirty this process of renewal becomes slightly less precise. Imperceptibly at first, at a rate of about 1% per annum, the “average” person starts to become less new than before.
13
Longevity of life and mind relationship, contd…
Protecting The Three Treasures:-In Taoist philosophy we are all brought into this world empowered with the three treasures. Those who waste and abuse them will suffer sickness, disease and a short life. Those who learn how to enhance and nurture them will enjoy good health and a long life. The three treasures are -1. ESSENCE. (Jing) 2. ENERGY. (Qi) 3. SPIRIT. (Shen) Essence relates to our physical bodies, the blood, tissue, particularly our vital fluids like enzymes, hormones, etc. Energy relates to our life force which permeates every single part of our body and allows us to function. Spirit deals with our thoughts and awareness. In Taoist philosophy these three treasures should work together in harmony.
14
Longevity of life and mind relationship, contd…
Stress Enemy Number One! Without doubt the most important factor affecting our state of health and so in turn our chance to live to a great age is our ability to deal with stress! Chronic stress is the main cause for immune deficiency in our world today. Scientists have discovered that mental pressures of this kind cause the body to produce neuro peptides which are chemicals, they have a powerful suppressive effect on our immune system. Our bodies are under constant attack and yet our human DNA contains all the information needed to allow our bodies to renew itself. The great mystery is that this process is ninety nine percent efficient.
15
Meditation, Your Biological Age, and longevity of life
Meditation/ Self Hypnosis is without doubt one of the best ways to reduce the negative effects of stress on the system. Studies have shown that the levels of adrenaline and other substances associated with a stress triggered response are markedly lower in people who habitually practice meditation. A poem from the first century BC written by a Taoist adept called Wen-tzu. The body is the temple of life. Energy is the force of life. Spirit is the governor of life. If one of them goes off balance, all three are damaged. When the spirit takes command, the body naturally follows it, and this benefits all Three Treasures. When the body leads the way, the spirit goes along, and this harms all Three Treasures. What he is basically saying ‘try and use self control’ in your appetites. Don’t overdo things and perhaps a little of what you fancy does you good.
16
HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR READING, using subconscious
Most people read between 200 and 350 words a minute. President Kennedy was reputed to have been able to read more than 2500 words per minute. Main obstacles to fast reading are:-Singular Word Reading, Sub-vocalisation, Regression,Slow Recovery Time. It is possible to improve Speed at which your read, Your understanding of what you read, Concentration, Memory of what you have read. Since you will be utilising your subconscious mind you will need to relax your conscious mind sufficiently in order to allow your subconscious the freedom to act. Having learnt to scan the book while in a deeply relaxed state your subconscious mind will see and absorb the words on the page at an incredible rate.
17
Learning how to learn. Visual people not surprisingly prefer to learn via their sight. For example they like to write things down on a piece of paper before they can remember them. If you asked a visual person a particular word they are usually able to see it in their mind’s eye or prefer to write it down on a piece of paper. They say things like "I can see what you mean" or "I get the picture". Visual people are often smart dressers. They tend to speak quickly. There are often good at organising and planning events. Auditory people might say something like "that rings a bell" or "that sounds good to me". They like to read aloud and often talk to themselves. Auditory people will often be very musical. Kinaesthetic people often be very tactile and want a touch you in order to get your attention. They will often stand quite close to your while they address you.
18
How To Develop A Good Concentration
If you're working at a desk make sure that your chair is at the right height. Ensure the lighting is sufficient so that you don't have to strain your eyes. However it is the distractions that come from within our own minds which cause us the most problems. Relaxation is the key to success in most things in life however the other most vital ingredient is to have a positive frame of mind. As an aid to relaxation background music can often be a very good thing. Summary:- 1. Quieten your mind by meditating for a few moments before revising or studying. 2. Make sure the area in which you are studying is comfortable and conducive to you and, as far as possible, free from outside interference. 3. Ensure that you have a positive attitude towards the work you are doing. 4. Play baroque music at a low volume in the background. Music which has a tempo of 60 beats per minute is particularly effective
19
Improve Memory The important substance that connects the dendrites is a fatty protein called “Myelin”. Myelin is produced by the brain and covers the connection between the dendrites as you learn new information. If this connection is stimulated in the future then more coats are added to aid this connection. As the coat gets thicker, as the specific information is relearned, less effort or energy is needed to make the connection and the connection is said to be “myelinated”. Recent research has found that choline is essential for good memory. In fact it has been used to treat people with all kinds of mental disorders. Choline occurs naturally in Soya beans. Folic acid is also an important nutrient for efficient brain functioning and if you have a deficiency then this can cause you to have problems with concentration and memory.
20
Improve Memory….2 Vitamin B1, B2 & B5 and magnesium are all very important to the general health of out nervous system. B3 has been found to be important to maintain the metabolism of the brain and this in turn helps you concentrate. Also B6, B12, Iron, copper, Zinc, and calcium are all important ingredients. Vitamin C is good for reducing stress within the body and helps remove toxins. Factor the experts consider to be particularly bad for the brain and memory in particular? That's right it’s Stress! Breathing properly is one of the best ways to keep stress under control and as we know the brain requires a lot of oxygen to function properly.
21
Improve Memory…..3 Short term memory is temporary where as long-term memory is permanent. Short-term memory can last anything from 20 seconds up to two days Technique One: - 1. Read through material for the first time. 2. Review the material for five minutes, 10 minutes later. 3. Review the material the week later for approximately three minutes. 4. Review the material one month later again for three minutes. 5. Finally review material six months later for about three minutes. It is a good idea to take breaks of about five minutes between learning any new material.
22
How to develop a fantastic memory!
Your memory remembers things best if they have or use the following characteristics. 1. Memories that stimulate the sensory centres of the brain, particularly visual associations, are easier to recall.2. Event which have strong emotional content like love, sorrow, or happiness will be easier to remember.3. Events which involve unusual or outstanding qualities have a habit of sticking in the mind. (Like a flying saucer landing on top of your house).4. Your mind will make sure you remember anything which has a connection with your survival5. Repetition is one way of helping your memory to recall certain facts or events. Any experiences which involve sight, sound, taste, touch, or movement will have particularly strong associations for our memory. Memories which are charged with great joy and happiness.

Techniques for mind optimization, by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
For Brainwashing: Sit down and meditate for a while, do pranayam or kriya for 20 minutes, bhajans and prayer. Negative emotions like anger, jealousy, hatred and desires , all get reflected in the mind. You should keep participating in satsang and discuss about life To overcome painful memories: understand clearly that every thing in this world is impermanent, understanding that events which happened in past are no more living now, having dispassion, increase your prana, memories of self are gained by service to noble, divine company and divine presence. Everything is there in memory. Memory can make you sad or enlightened Surrender whatever consider as yours to God and accept it as divine’s gift as prasad. God resides in everything, nothing belongs to anybody. Do not feel jealous, do not hate anybody

There are three types of perfection: perfection in mind keeps our mind in peace, perfection in speech is to speak only when needed. Do not get into fights, perfection in action is not 100% possible. Perfection in mind and speech can be obtained by sadhna (spiritual practices), seva (service) and satsang (music and meditation). Once our mind and speech is perfect ,work will also become perfect automatically We should do ‘pranayam’, focus on on our breath everyday, to maintain health, to purify mind , intellect and emotions and helps to be in present moment When our mind is happy , our work gets done and we able to bless others or heal them. All powers are hidden within the self; atma gyan (self knowledge) can bring them out Thirty minutes of meditation will make you look brighter
25
Techniques for mind optimization, by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
When you feel no difference between in and out ,to find yourself as bubbling fountain of joy, of love, of awareness: Bring mind which is all over the place, back to its source, with certain skill, just as you learn to speak a language. Drop the fear. Fear is always about the unknown and the most unknown for you is yourself. Love for sensual objects is bondage. Distaste for objects of sense is release This world grows with intentions . You build a world in your mind only through intentions, your own thought process. Distractions and concentration belong to the mind The world is full of paradoxes and life is full of opposites. The whole art is to embrace the opposites(e.g. health and sickness), accommodate the paradoxes and live with smile. Life is a complex mathematics, that is why many things do not appear to be clear to you

Yoga means bringing balance in both sides of brain, logic and music Nada yog, the yog of sound, music. Singing is essential, singing Sanskrit mantra have an added advantage. Mantra are very potent sounds, the meaning is not important. The maha mantras energise the consciousness , reverberates the depth of consciousness. Maharishi Patanjali has given four techniques to save mind from four type of people on this planet One who are happy: have friendship with such persons, otherwise you will give rise to jealousy within yourself . You will have hatred for them and try to find fault in them. Shake hands and be friendly with them
27
Techniques for mind optimization, by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Do not be friendly with miserable person, 90% of the times a person becomes miserable due to his own mind, his own doings . Be compassionate towards them., develop quality of compassion within you When somebody is doing good work be happy with them If somebody is doing horrible work, you have to save your mind, be indifferent to them, do not hate them . You act to correct them but inside you Maharishi Patanjali told this in ancient times – how to save your mind , with friendliness ,compassion, happiness and indifference. Keep these four attitudes in your heart, you do not have to practice it. Keep it in your heart and it will automatically manifest. It will spontaneously happen in your life, thus your mind will be in pleasant state, your mind will have peace grace will flow in your mind and when it flows in your mind , it will flow through you to everybody

The eight limbs of Yoga- Patanjali Yog sutra
Yama is absentation from harming others, from falsehood, from theft, from indiscipline with regard to sensuous pleasures, and from greed. The Niyamas (observences) are purity (physical and mental),contentment, mortification(to feel shamed, humiliated or sorry), study and devotion to God. posture (asana) is to be seated in a position which is firm but relaxed. Posture becomes firm and relaxed through control of the natural tendencies of the body, and through meditation on the infinite. With the practice of asanas, we arrive at the state where we are able to work with the energies controlling the body.
30
The eight limbs of Yoga- Patanjali Yog sutra, contd..
Pranayam: After mastering posture, one must practice control of the prana by stopping the motions of inhalation and exhalation. The breath may be stopped externally, or internally, or checked in mid motion, and regulated according to place , time and a fixed number of moments. Retention is the key because it allows a longer period for the assimilation of prana, just as it allows more time for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the cells. Pranayam is actually retention of breath pranayama is actually only retention
31
The eight limbs of Yoga- Patanjali Yog sutra, contd.
The state of our nadis and chakras are defined by our samskaras, conditionings carried in seed form, as well as purushartha, self-effort and anugraha, grace. At higher levels of practice, the direction of the pranic flows is influenced and a greater quantum of energy is released from the chakras. Pratyahara: the aim of pranayama is to perfect pratyahara, which in the traditional texts has been described as not just sense withdrawal, but the state where we perceive every sensory input as a manifestation of the Supreme, and have expanded the pranic capacity to the extent that we can retain the breath for three hours. When one attains the power of holding the breath for three hours, then certainly the wonderful state of pratya-hara is reached without fail.
32
The eight limbs of Yoga- Patanjali Yog sutra, contd..
6th limb-concentration (dharana) is holding the mind within a center of spiritual consciousness in the body, or fixing it on some devine form, either within the body outside it 7th limb- meditation(dhyana) is an unbroken flow of thought toward the object of concentration 8th limb- When in meditation, the true nature of object shines forth, not distorted by the mind of the perceiver, that is absorbtion(Samadhi) When these three –concentration, meditation and absorbtion- are brought to bear one subject, they are called ‘samyam’ Through mastery of samyam comes the light of knowledge It must be applied stage by stage

A Say Over Your Mind:
35
Mind Best Friend and enemy: shlok ch VI-5, Bhagwad Geeta
Let one lift self by self, let down not self by self Self is best friend of self, self is worst enemy of self Explanation: Self reliance is the way to success through confidence. One has to improve through one’s own efforts. No one else can develop any one. One has to develop himself and other can assist and contribute in that effort The mind is a creative but wavering companion A controlled and stable mind is best friend. An uncontrolled and wavering mind is one’s worst enemy. The responsible leader is in full charge of his own mind through his own intellect. Thus his creativity is sound and his innovations are implementable

Meditation Is Medicinal By: Mukul Sharma
Tum-mo Meditation: On completion of training , test process for monks. First, the student is stripped naked and allowed to meditate. Then other monks take a large sheet of cloth which is soaked in freezing river water and wrap it around his body. , but an adept who has mastered Tum-mo is expected to be able to raise his skin temperature by at least 15 to 20 degrees and dry the sheet. Not once - or twice - but three times in succession Herbert Benson, an associate professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School, with Help of HH Dalai Lama, witnessed and studied above process
37
Meditation Is Medicinal By: Mukul Sharma,contd..
They not only made videos of them drying wet sheets but found they were able to raise their body temperatures by as much as 17 degrees Celsius using Tum-mo methods. “It was an astounding, breathtaking result Benson said. researchers have shown that temperature control is not the only thing that can be consciously controlled by the mind. Even non-meditating lay people can apparently be taught to control things like muscle tone, blood pressure, heartbeat, digestion, brainwave activity, oxygen consumption and the skin’s electrical resistance. As a result, bio-feedback today is often used as an efficient adjunct therapy to treat conditions as diverse as migraine, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias and epilepsy. Even if we were to discount spiritual or transcendent benefits of meditation, the fact still remains that it’s a way to expand the capacities of our minds in order to control our bodies in a non-invasive way

The 3 Gs To Fulfilment By: Jaya Row
Everyone is chasing fulfilment, happiness, and satisfaction. It is the mind that plays tricks with you, misleads you and, in the end, destroys you. Consult your intellect, strengthen it and be guided by it. Nourish your body with dedicated activity. Fill your heart with love. Strengthen the intellect with knowledge. It is ignorance that creates the imaginary void. People seek fulfillment in three ways -- Goal, Glory and God. They set up limited, selfish, self-seeking goals and work incessantly to achieve these ends. Expand your mind to accommodate the interests of a wider circle of people. Get inspired by a higher ideal. Then you will wake up every morning enthused to work People also seek glory, recognition and respect. This need emerges from a deep sense of inadequacy. The highest motivator is God. Everyone feels the need to fall back on That which is beyond the world. The unintended side effect of spiritual pursuit is immense prosperity and happiness, power and enjoyment
39
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
We are born with a certain quantum of prana, and we maintain it, increase or decrease it through the air we breathe, the food we eat, the thoughts we think, the actions we perform and the kind of life we lead. The breath is the external manifestation of prana. The practices of pranayama raise the levels of prana by working with the breath. A significant outcome of pranic awareness is that one is able to gain control over the mind. Positive thoughts, higher feelings and yogic practices generate higher levels of prana. When the sexual energy is sublimated or transformed, substantial prana is conserved within the system and converted into ojas, a subtler form of energy.
40
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
Normally only one-tenth of the human brain is active and the other nine parts remain inactive. This is because a high level of energy is required for the whole brain to function simultaneously. Pranic value of food: the quality of prana in different foods by categorizing them as sattwic, rajasic and tamasic. Simonéton divided food into four general classes. On a scale of zero to 10,000 angstroms, he found the basic human wavelength to be about 6.5 thousand. Foods that have wavelengths between this and 10,000 angstroms, he regarded as those of the highest quality. In this first class are fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, ocean fish and shellfish.
41
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
In the next class, with radiations 6.5 thousand to 3,000 angstroms are eggs, peanut oil, wine, boiled vegetables, cane sugar and cooked fish. The third category, with very weak radiations below 3,000 angstroms, is comprised of cooked meats, sausages, coffee, tea, chocolate, jams, processed cheeses and white bread. The fourth category exhibits practically no life force and includes margarine, conserves, alcoholic spirits, refined white sugar and bleached flour. Simonéton also found that food with a vital radiance of 8,000 to 10,000 angstroms caused the pendulum to rotate at the amazing speed of revolutions per minute over a radius of 80 millimetres. Those between 6,000 and 8,000 angstroms spin at revolutions per minute over a radius of 60 millimetres. However, meats, pasteurized milk and overcooked vegetables, which have a value of less than 2,000, are too low in energy
42
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
Pranic value of air: . When one inhales negative ions, they increase the level of prana in the body. Inside a closed room in a modern city there may be less than 50 negative ions per square foot and in the mountains there are about 5,000. Negative ions are therapeutic partly because they kill germs. In human beings, they act on the capacity to absorb oxygen, accelerating the blood's delivery of oxygen to cells and tissues. It has also been observed that the ability to assimilate negative ions goes up during yogic practices such as pranayama. Normally only one-tenth of the human brain is active and the other nine parts remain inactive. The yogic practices are able to supply such a quantum of energy and awaken the genius in an average individual.
43
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
Pancha Kosha or Vital Sheaths: The first sheath or level of experience is the physical body, or annamaya kosha. The word anna means 'food' and maya 'comprised of‘. . The asanas have a influence; they clear the blockages in the annamaya kosha and as a consequence, influence the pranamaya kosha The second sheath is pranamaya kosha, the energy field of an individual. Clairvoyants see the pranic body as a coloured, luminous cloud or aura around the body, radiating from within the physical body The third sheath is manomaya kosha, the mental dimension. The level of experience is the conscious mind, which holds the two grosser koshas, annamaya and pranamaya, together as an integrated whole
44
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
The fourth sheath is vijnanamaya kosha, the psychic level of experience, which relates to the subconscious and un-conscious mind. Inner knowledge comes to the conscious mind from this level. When this sheath is awakened, one begins to experience life at an intuitive level, to see the underlying reality behind outer appearances. This leads to wisdom. The fifth sheath is anandamaya kosha, the level of bliss and happiness. This is the causal or transcendental body, the abode of the most subtle prana. One can work with one's own prana to enhance vitality, will and strength, cure diseases, boost capability and efficiency, and evolve to a higher consciousness.
45
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
The activation of pranic force leads to the development of healing abilities, so that the energy can be used to repair the wounds of life. Purification of manomaya kosha results in clarity of thought and balanced expression of emotions and ego. If the consciousness is mainly in annamaya kosha, one will identify strongly with the body, as many epicureans and hedonists do. If the consciousness is in pranamaya kosha, one will identify with power and vitality, as athletes do. If the consciousness is in manomaya kosha, one will identify with the analytical mind. When the consciousness has evolved to the level of vijnanamaya kosha, there is clarity of cognition based on intuitive intelligence
46
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
Chakras or Energy Vortices: They receive and store the cosmic prana, and act as transformers to step down the level of energy, so that it can be used by the different organs and parts of the body. They also act as switches for illumining the higher faculties and dimensions of consciousness. The six main chakras located along the spinal column are: mooladhara, swadhisthana, manipura, anahata, vishuddhi and ajna. Beyond the six are two other centres of awakening: bindu and sahasrara, whose perception is acquired only at significantly evolved states of consciousness. Each chakra vibrates at a particular rate and velocity.
47
Pran and Pranayam by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
Mooladhara chakra : In pranic science, mooladhara is the generating station for prana. The awakening of prana starts from mooladhara and ascends the spinal cord via the pingala nadi. This centre is also the direct switch for awakening ajna chakra. Mooladhara is associated with annamaya kosha and the earth element. In psychological terms mooladhara is associated with the unconscious mind where the most primitive and deep-rooted instincts and fears lie. Swadhisthana chakra : This centre is the storehouse of all the latent samskaras and impressions, which are considered to be the substrata of individual existence. In psychological terms, swadhisthana is associated with the subconscious mind and is responsible for drowsiness and sleep. .It is also related with the reproductive organs and the sense of taste.
48
Pranayam benefits by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
The one essential benefit of pranayama is that it allows one to increase one's level of vital energy, thus strengthening the force of the different systems active within, resulting in better overall health. The chest is opened to its fullest extent and the lungs are stretched to the utmost. This strengthens the respiratory muscles and makes the lungs more elastic, resulting in a healthier process of respiration. The stomach, pancreas, liver, bowels and kidneys are all exercised in pranayama through the massage given to them by the diaphragm and the abdominal muscles. Nadi shodhana pranayama in particular exercises the whole cardiac system. In this practice the ratio of 1:2 maintained between inhalation and exhalation has a direct relationship with the systolic and diastolic periods of the cardiac rhythm. In bhastrika and kapalbhati, vibrations spread to the entire circulatory system, including the veins, arteries. The endocrine glands influence the behaviour, reactions, interpretations, and even the so-called natural responses.

The brain, spinal cord, cranial and spinal nerves benefit from a richer and more liberal blood supply received through pranayama. Respiration also controls fluctuating moods, which are subtle behaviors of the mind The mind becomes one-pointed and achieves dharana, concentration, and dhyana, meditation. Pranayam practices reduce stress and hypertension, normalize blood pressure (both high and low), alleviate heart disease, increase vitality and lung capacity, and balance the relationship between the brain hemispheres. It has also been found that pranayama results in a synchronous flow of alpha, delta and theta waves, which harmonizes brain and heart activity. Nadi shodhana pranayama helps in repetitive mathematical task, breath holding time (BHT), peak expiratory flow, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate, and older age group showed more benefit from BHT

Bhramari Pranayama (humming bee breath) The word bhramar means 'bee'. This practice is so called because the practitioner imitates the same deep, low pitched humming sound as that of the black bee. It is used in nada yoga to awaken awareness of the inner psychic sounds. Bhastrika Pranayama (bellows breath) Bhastra are the bellows used to pump fire. The practice is so called because the diaphragm movement here imitates a pair of bellows and fans the internal fire, creating physical, pranic and psychic heat. Posture: The rapid breathing performed in this practice requires a steady asana. Padmasana and siddhasana or siddha yoni asana are best as they lock the body into a stable position and allow freedom of abdominal movement. Other sitting postures may be used if the above are not possible.

Can The Mind Heal The Body? By Claude Butler
Your body is composed of self-healing mechanisms. And, these self-repair mechanisms are under the influence of thoughts, beliefs and feelings that originate in the mind. These natural self-healing mechanisms kill the cancer cells we produce everyday naturally, repair broken protein, fight infectious agents, slow aging, eliminate toxins, get rid of foreign bodies and assist in keeping your body healthy. nowadays we are in the ‘fight or flight’ mode all the time. The amygdala in your brain perceives negative thoughts, beliefs, and feelings financial fears, relationship worries, work stress, loneliness, or pessimism; as threats equally scary as a life threatening danger. And, when this happens, your self –repair mechanisms fail. Only when your nervous system is in a relaxation response, are your self-repair mechanisms activated.
