6 How will the new A Level system be different from the present one?
The new A Levels will be fully linear, with all A-Level examinations being sat at the end of two years of study in May-June of Year 13. The AS qualification will still exist but it will no longer count towards the final grade of an A-Level and will instead be a separate qualification in its own right.

7 BTEC and Cambridge Technical
Available in 1 or 2 A-Level equivalent – (usually 2 + 1) 1 or 2 subject – lots of units Business Studies, Health and Social Care, Creative Media, Forensic Science and Sport, Financial Awareness Cambridge National ICT Need 5 A* - C passes Grade A* - C in English or Maths Coursework, challenging

8 Mix and Match Choose from both A-Levels and other Level 3 courses provided you meet to entry criteria. At least 5 A*- C Grade B in subject chosen or related Grade A* - C in English and Maths

9 Level 2 Courses (BTEC Award)
Level 2 Courses in at least 2 subjects plus English and Maths GCSE – possible stepping stone to Level 3 courses BTEC Award - equivalent to 1 A*-C GCSE Practical Vocational Low exam focus, high coursework focus Need D/E at GCSE

20 WHAT OFSTED SAID Students’ achievement in the Sixth Form has improved significantly and is now outstanding. The courses that students follow are well matched to their needs and their progress is closely monitored so that any sign of a student falling behind is identified quickly and additional support is given swiftly. This has resulted in improved examination results and an increase in the number of students gaining higher grades. November 2013

22 Making Level 3 choices If you gain at least 5 grade A* to C GCSEs including Mathematics and English, you may take four A Level courses. Some subjects have additional entry criteria; you will need to have at least a grade B in each subject chosen, or a related subject - see the prospectus for further details. To study other Level 3 courses you will need to gain at least 5 A* to C GCSEs preferably with Mathematics and English (you must have at least one of these).

25 Choosing BTEC Level 2 If you do not achieve GCSE grades sufficient to commence Level 3, you can join the BTEC programme at Level 2 and if successful progress to a Level 3 course in the same subject in the following year if you wish. Subject Teacher Year 11 Autumn CPG Attitude to Learning Progress towards Target Homework Quality Homework Completion Strategies for Improvement English D1 3 Below Expected C A Pupil needs to plan the main points of her arguments to ensure that she does not repeat herself when writing essays. Mathematics C3 Expected B Pupil must practise Maths over weekends and holidays using all available resources. Science C2 Use key words when answering questions. You write good answers but lose marks for not using the correct scientific terminology. Religious Studies 2 Pupil should keep her positive attitude to the subject going into the future and she will do well. Art D2 4 Pupil needs to focus much more in class. She also needs to complete each of her units of coursework and improve upon her drawings. Health & Social Care M1 Re - sit the January exam to aim for a Distinction. Write assignments in more depth. ICT B3 Pupil is often distracted and is not meeting her full potential. Pupil must be more productive in lessons. Core PE 6 Pupil must improve her attitude in lessons and demonstrate much more effort, in order to demonstrate her ability. BTEC is the option

Subject Teacher Year 11 Autumn CPG Attitude to Learning Progress towards Target Homework Quality Homework Completion Strategies for Improvement English B1 2 Above Expected A Pupil needs to ensure she can adapt her writing for different audiences and purposes. Mathematics A3 B Pupil should complete homework to a higher standard and ensure that she attempts to solve higher order questions. Science Expected Pupil needs to practise exam questions weekly, especially focussing on the 5-6 mark questions. Religious Studies C2 4 Below Expected Pupil must structure her responses and proof read her work before submitting it for marking. Art B3 1 Pupil needs to look at A level work for ideas on how to further her research and then ensure that her work is as in depth as this. Graphics Make sure revision books are purchased and start revising for the mock exams in December. ICT C1 Pupil will benefit from Wednesday intervention after school in I1 every week. Core PE 3 Pupil needs to devise and implement strategies and tactics within games situations. A-levels is the option
