4 Research the Employers
Identify which employers are of most interest to you and create a priority list. Visit their web sites to learn more about them and available positions Read and understand their mission, vision and values If their values align with yours what work have you done that align with that value? If there is something integrate it into your “elevator speech” Do a search of their events and news to learn what’s happening there. See if the organization has a link to its most recent press releases for additional information.

5 Plan your fair strategy
After you have researched: If there is a map of the fair, note the locations of the organizations you are most interested in Make a list and target those organizations first.

6 Update Your Resume Use the examples in the handout and on the UCSF Office of Career and Professional Development webpage to help make the update easier For preview work and/or volunteer experience focus on accomplishments and contributions as well as skills you have developed during past experience that you use as a nurse (aka: Transferrable Skills)

Highlight what you can contribute to the organization Your research will help you be as specific as possible with each employer Ex: knowing what they need helps you pick what you can contribute to the org. 20 Determine questions to ask the employers
The goal is to start a conversation and create connection Again research will help you know which questions to ask and not ask Look around on Google for possible questions Have at least 5 questions per employer to ask. You don’t need to ask them all but you will be prepared

21 Anticipate questions employers may ask you
Again, research helps you reflect on the type of employees they are looking for Your job is to think about possible interview questions they could ask that may help them find that out about you. So far the conversations at this Career Fair have been casual and interviews have been scheduled for a later time
