Source server compliance/health checks are now enforced before actual migration happens, and up to 90% of all migration blocking issues should be discovered at this point. Both clean install and migration now offered during setup, to make the migration process a lot easier to implement for Value Added Provider (VAP) partners and for customers. Supported migrations to Standard: SBS 2003 SP1 and R2, SBS 2008 SP2: In both these scenarios, the migration includes domain join to the new SBS domain (setup phase) + workloads migration (E.g. Exchange, SharePoint, WSUS) + client update Essentials: In this scenario, the migration includes domain join to the new SBS domain (setup phase) + client update for SBS features (i.e. the uninstall of the Essentials client/install of the SBS client does not require the client to leave/rejoin the domain). There will be a whitepaper to cover all the needs of necessary feature migration, such as moving data hosted in the cloud to on-premise, to make the Standard server a complete replacement of the old Essentials server. Standard – for hardware upgrades from old server to new server. In this scenario, the migration includes domain join (setup phase) + workloads migration only (client update not really applicable in this scenario). Supported migrations from Standard: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard: This migration is used when you need to unlock the Standard 75-user limit. In all cases, the Migration wizard provides a guided user experience throughout setup without requiring users to read a 80-page long whitepaper up front; this wizard covers all steps needed and users do not need to switch between wizard and the whitepaper. Note: at RTM (or later) the following migrations will be supported: Windows Server 2003 Standard (32 and 64 bit) Windows Server 2008 Standard (32 and 64 bit) Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard All these scenarios get: domain join (setup phase) only (no workloads to migrate, and clients get vanilla installs), and the migration is supported using the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT). Migration from SBS 2000 is unlikely to be supported. Timing: 3 mins.
