Dual Credit is the process by which a high school student enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous credit for the course from the college and the high school.

4. GENERAL INFORMATION

Students who take dual credit courses are beginning their college career. This is a serious commitment and should only be entered into by those who are ready to be committed to college-level work.
Students and parents should discuss the level of commitment needed in regards to their high school course load and extra-curricular activities.
Student & Parents must sign dual credit agreement.

5. Is Dual Credit the Right Choice for Me ?
Parents and students should consider goals, maturity, responsibility, and academic ability prior to enrolling in a dual credit program.
You might decide not to participate in dual credit if you:
Are struggling with your other high school classes
Feel overwhelmed with your current load of coursework and extracurricular activities
Are not ready to take on college-level coursework and the responsibilities of being a college student
Remember!!! Dual credit classes become part of your permanent college transcript and impact eligibility for financial aid and scholarships!

6. STUDY TIPS AND INFORMATION
The average study time for a college course is 2-3 hours per hour of class time.
Some classes will require more study time.
It is better to overestimate time required.

In order to be eligible to receive high school credit for a dual credit course:
Student must attend dual credit information meeting along with one parent to discuss course options and eligibility process.
Student must meet placement requirements (TSI)
Student must receive written approval from the high school principal and parent/guardian prior to taking the course.
Student must complete the registration process with
UTPB and/or WCJC

Complete Certificate of Early Admission Form

14. Brazos High School Policy
At any time during the first two weeks of the first semester, a student may exit a dual credit course in which he/she is enrolled and move to corresponding academic course (e.g., exit U.S. History Dual Credit and enroll in U.S. History), provided there is space available in the desired course along with teacher conference, parent permission, and administrator approval. The student will be responsible for making up all missed work. The grade earned through the academic course will be the grade which is recorded on the student’s transcript.

Withdrawals remain on the college transcript (this deadline is established by perspective college)
May impact financial aid eligibility in the future

17. DUAL CREDIT COURSE TUITION
For dual credit courses, UTPB offers a discounted rate of $150 per course per semester plus the cost of books except English 1301 & 1302 which are $200
For dual credit courses, WCJC out of district students will charged in district fees and tuition. In district students will only be charged fees, no tuition.

All textbook fees and supplies will be the responsibility of the student.

FERPA-Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
FERPA Form must be signed BY THE STUDENT if a parent wants access to student grades and other college information.
Authorization is good for one year.

21. COURSE GRADES Six-weeks grades are provided by UTPB, not WCJC.
Dual Credit grades affect Honor Roll eligibility but not UIL eligibility
Semester/Final grades are provided in numerical format to high schools but will be posted as letter grade on the college transcript.
Your College Account will have information about grades and payment.
