2 What to do for Unit Two... Unit two focuses on the election of The most recent election between Incumbent Barack Obama & Republican Mitt Romney! We will begin on knowing the candidates and there running mates (Vice President). You will also need to do independent research to truly understand the material. We will begin with research and notes and also follow that with a project.

3 Meet the Candidates! The Election of 2012 was comprised of over 5 candidates from different respective parties. The Main Candidates were Democratic & Republican: Barack Obama & Mitt Romney. Barack Obama is the current President of the United States of America. Mitt Romney was a former Governor of Massachusetts.

End Bush Tax Cuts for households earning more that $250,000. Raise taxes on wealthy to reduce deficit. National debt is at $6.5 trillion dollars. Lower taxes on manufacturing industry. Mitt Romney Make Bush Tax Cuts permanent. Cut taxes to create small business. Lower major company taxes by over 25%.

12 What are the Bush Tax Cuts?
The Bush Tax Cuts were where all of America had a reduced tax break. The Middle/Working Class, The wealthy were all getting a lower tax rate. Many people thought that high income individuals did not deserve the tax break. The tax break ended this January 2013.

13 Healthcare Barack Obama Mitt Romney
Requiring people to buy healthcare insurance or pay a fine. Insure people protection even with pre existing conditions. Mitt Romney Wants people buying own healthcare insurance rather via employer. Opposed to people being encouraged to buy own health insurance.

14 Immigration Barack Obama Mitt Romney
Supports to path to legalization of illegal immigrants in United States. Toughen the penalties for hiring illegal immigrants. Voted for fencing across the border near Mexico. Issued an executive order to not deport certain undocumented immigrants. Mitt Romney Supports on making 'English' official language of the United States. Turn off magnets that draw in illegal immigrants like tuition breaks. In favor of promoting legal immigration.

Which candidate shares your values? Are you in favor of keeping the Bush tax cuts for the super wealthy? Why do you think Barack Obama was given the opportunity to serve a 2nd term? Explain to me what are 'democratic' values & 'republican' values. Your answers should be 4 to 5 sentences!
