Prezentace poskytuje informace o slavení Vánoc v anglicky mluvících státech. Metodický pokyn Prezentace zábavným a názorným způsobem přináší informace o oslavách Vánoc v Anglii. 5 Advent starts with the beginning of December and lasts until
the Christmas Eve. Its symbol is Advent wreath with four red candles (each for a Sunday) and one white, which is lit on Christmas Day. People start with Christmas preparations a few weeks before the holiday. They send cards, buy and wrap up the presents, tidy the house, buy a tree and prepare Christmas decorations. 6 Christmas Day Christmas celebrations in Britain and our country have a lot in common, but there is a significant difference as for the date of the most important day. 25 While in the Czech Republic people get their Christmas presents on 24th December evening, British people receive their gifts in the morning of 25th December - it´s called Christmas Day. 7 Traditions People sing carols, for example:
White Christmas, Jingle Bells or Rudolf The Red-Nosed Reindeer. Carols are special songs about Jesus´birth. Christmas tree is usually a fir tree or an artificial one. A star or an angel is on top of the tree. Decorating trees is popular with children. EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/

8 Food The Christmas pudding
is a brown pudding with raisins, nuts and cherries. It is steamed . Traditionally a silver coin is hidden inside the Christmas Pudding. The silver coin brings good fortune to the person who was lucky enough to find it when the pudding was cut. EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/

10 Father Christmas Children

11 Boxing Day 26 December was the day to open the Christmas Box to share the contents with the poor. The tradition of giving money to workers still continues today. Householders give small gifts or money to milkmen, dustmen, coalmen, paper boys etc.. EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/

12 New Year´s Eve People meet to celebrate the last day of a year and welcome the new year. They have parties at home or go to a restaurant. Londoners meet in Trafalgar Square before midnight and wait for the time when Big Ben strikes twelve. Then they link hands and sing a traditional song. 13 People in New York meet in Times Square where there are magnificent celebrations.
