2 What is PowerSchool is a web-based student information system that provides a full range of features needed by administrators at the district and school level to manage student information, a portal for teachers to enter classroom-specific data, and portals to foster communication between the school, parents and students. ?

6 Taking Attendance Click the chair for the class you want to take attendance in. This screen will appear. Notice the default is…present for all students. Click in the blank box aside of the absent student(s) and choose the absence code from the drop down. (blank box = present no need to choose present in drop down – only choose if student is absent) Scroll to the top or bottom of the page and click Submit. Radio button will turn green when your attendance has been submitted.

7 Calendar Icon On the Start Page, click the calendar icon. The calendar screen appears and allows an overview of attendance for a certain period of time. Click the Edit button in the Date Range section to choose the dates you want to view and then click Update. Note – Any attendance corrections must be given to the attendance secretary at your school

8 Seating Chart Attendance On the Start Page, click the seating chart icon. The Seating Chart tab can be used to take attendance while viewing the students pictures and layout of your classroom Use the Seating Chart Design tab to create a layout of your classroom and then drag and drop students pictures into that layout.

9 Backpack for Student Information On the PowerSchool Teacher Home page, click the backpack icon to display information for students in a particular section. Click the Name of the student to view more information. The Student Schedule page displays.

10 Choose the Select screens drop down to get more information about the selected student. Backpack – Select Screens Screens most helpful !! Demographics – parent/guardian contact information Meeting Attendance – student attendance by week through the entire year. Net Access Summary – allows you to view when parents and students accessed their portal online. Print a Report – use the drop down for a choice of reports Quick Lookup – student’s current schedule, attendance and grades for all subjects at a glance. Scroll to the bottom for a link to show dropped classes if a student transfers in. Schedule – current default screen when you click on a student. Term Grades – displays student’s grades; click on blue number grade to view.

11 Switching Between Students & Sections You can also……… Click the Name of another student to see the same screen for that student. Click a class under Change Class to open a different class. The navigation frame displays another list of students.

12 Daily Bulletin If your school is utilizing the Daily Bulletin feature, you will have the ability to view any school specific communication via the Daily Bulletin link. Note.. You will need to click on this, it is not a pop up.

13 Staff Directory The Staff Directory displays the staff for the selected school and term. Filtering is easy by using the links at the top. The Staff Directory displays staff name, room, email, home and school phone #s. Staff information can only be added or corrected by the data manager If you scroll to the bottom a copy and paste option is available for emailing.

14 Personalize Allows you to Customize PowerSchool Teacher to meet your needs and preferences. Change Password Allows you the ability to change your password. Default Student Screen Allows you to choose how you want the student screen to appear when you open a student record.

15 Run Reports For All Students Generate reports for all students in your classes using the link in the navigation frame. Select pre-configured reports from the pull down. 1.On the PowerSchool Teacher Home page, click Reports in the navigation frame. 2.The Reports for All Students page displays. 3.From the Reports for All Students page, choose the desired report in the drop down and click the Submit button. 4. The next screen you will see is the Report Queue-My Jobs. 5.To see your finished report, you must click the Refresh button until the status changes to Completed. Then click View.

16 Recommendations Feature PowerTeacher allows you to manage course recommendations for your students. Course recommendations may be required as a prerequisite or they may be purely advisory. Once a recommendation is made, it appears on the student’s Class Registration page in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

17 Schoolnet Schoolnet is a leading online assessment and reporting system. Teachers and administrators can create online tests, analyze data, and better plan instruction. Students can see their progress in real time, and know where they need to improve.

19 Launching the Gradebook Note: Gradebook must be launched in order to create Assignments and enter Grades. Click Launch

Grade Setup Icon - Used to setup term and category weights for grading purposes. Class Content Icon- Used to view information such as course number as well as term start and end date. 22 Gradebook Sections Use the drop down for year, semester or quarter view of your classes. Use to view your Active and Dropped Students Use to create categories for assignments within the gradebook. CMS recommends only Formal and Informal Categories all others can be deleted. Looking at the left side of your gradebook screen you will notice the 3 sections pictured below.

23 Gradebook Setup Use the Grade Setup tab to specify how you want final grades to be calculated for students in your classes. Calculation methods include total points, term weights, category weights. Note: CMS Recommends F1, S1, S2 - folders use Term Weights Q1-Q4 - folders use Category Weights

24 Gradebook - Content The Class Content window displays three modes; Class Info, School Content, and My Content. Basic class information displays in Class Info mode. Specific information such as a document or web site link that is geared to a course, section, or teacher displays in the School Content or My Content modes. Content links can be distributed to the School Content or My Content modes from PowerTeacher Administrator.

25 Gradebook - Creating Categories To delete categories, click on the - minus sign To add categories, click on the + sign and the View Assignment Category box will appear.

26 Power Teacher GB - Creating Categories Gradebook - Creating Categories Note… Please do not use the color red when creating a category. 1.In the Category Name field type Formal. 2.In the Abbreviation field type Formal. 3.Choose a Color for your category. (not red) 4.Set the Points Possible to 100. 5.Choose the Score Type. 6.Check to include in the Final Grade. 7.Publish Assignments choose Immediately. 8.Check to Publish Scores. 9.Add a Description. (optional) 10.Click OK to save the category you created. 11.Repeat steps 1-10 to add the Informal Category.

28 Gradebook – Creating Assignments 1.Enter the Assignment Name. 2.Select the Category you want the Assignment to be associated with; Formal or Informal. 3.Enter the Score Type & Possible Points 4.Enter a Due Date 5.Check include in Final Grade 6.Enter a description for the Assignment (optional) 7.From the Publish Assignment tab, choose when to publish the assignment: Immediately, On Specific Date, Days Before Due, or On Due Date. 8.On the lower right-hand corner, select Save. Click the Assignments tab (at the top of the screen) then go to the bottom of the screen and select the + sign to create assignments

29 Gradebook – Copying Assignments From the Scoresheet Tab right click on Assignments. Click Copy Assignment from the dropdown menu.

31 Select a class from the Classes pane. Click the Scoresheet tab. The Scoresheet Assignments window appears. Select the assignment column header for which you want to fill scores. To open Auto Fill from the gradebook menu bar, choose Tools > Fill Scores. The Fill Assignment Scores dialog appears. Gradebook – Fill Scores You can also right click on the desired assignment to enable Fill Scores

32 Gradebook – Fill Scores (Continued) Right click in the column of the desired Assignment. Select Fill Scores from Dropdown Menu. Choose Items with No Score or Replace All Choose one or more Score Values Type desired Comment. (Optional) Click OK.

33 The Score Inspector provides an alternative way of entering scores and comments. It provides information about assignments that may be turned in but not be currently graded. It notifies students and parents when assignments have not been turned in or are turned in late. It allows assignments to be flagged as Collected, Late, Exempt or Missing. Activate the Score Inspector one of two ways: 1.Choose Tools then Score Inspector. The Score Inspector dialog box appears or.. 2.Right click on the desired Assignment and a dropdown menus appears then choose Show Score Inspector. Gradebook – Score Inspector

34 Gradebook – Using Score Inspector Enter score for the assignment and/or appropriate indicator(s). Assignment Comments can also be included. Score Indicators and Comments can be viewed by hovering over the Indicator Icon.

36 Select a class from the Classes pane. Click the Scoresheet tab, then click Final Grades mode. The Scoresheet Final Grades window appears. Choose a reporting term from the Reporting Term drop down menu. The Scoresheet window refreshes and displays only those assignments and scores with a due date that falls within that selected reporting term. Click the final grade field of the student for which you want to manually override a final grade. From the gradebook menu bar, choose Tools > Score Inspector. The Final Grade Score Inspector dialog displays the final grade details. Select the Manual Override checkbox. Enter the new percent in the Percent field, if applicable. Enter the new letter grade in the Grade field, if applicable. Enter final grade text in the Comment field, if applicable. Use the Previous and Next arrows to repeat for each student, if applicable. Click Save. The final grade appears within the selected student final grade field. Note: The final grade appears bolded, italicized, and with a red circular exclamation point (“!)”. If a comment was entered, a blue circular “ C” also appears. Gradebook – Using the Score Inspector To Override Final Grade

37 When a student is dropped, their records do not leave your Gradebook. They are filtered out of your active student list into your dropped student list. Steps to Enter Grade for Dropped Students 1.Select a class from the Classes area. 2.In the Student Groups area, change 'Highlight Selected' to 'Filter Selected' in the dropdown menu to see the grades for the dropped students. 3.Select the Dropped filter. Only dropped students will show in the Scoresheet and Students tabs and you can add/edit the records as usual. 4.Click Save (located at the bottom right- hand side of the screen). 38 Student Groups, allows you to adapt instruction to meet the various learning needs and readiness levels of individual students or groups of students. Student groups are made up of a hierarchical structure: a set, groups within that set, and students within those groups. Student Groups Gradebook – Student Management Set Name Group Name Students Note: Student groups are class-specific. Therefore, you need to create student groups for each class in which you want to use student groups.

39 Gradebook – Creating Student Groups 1.Select a class from the Classes pane. 2. In the Student Groups pane, do one of the following: o Click the Plus (+) button and select Add Group Set or.. o Right-click and select Add Group Set. 3.The Add Group Student Set window appears 4.Enter the name of the set (up to 50 characters) in the Group Set Name field. 5.Click OK. The new set appears in the Students Group pane. 6.Repeat for each group.

40 Student Groups can be Edited or Deleted from the Student Group pane by following these steps. 1.Select a class from the Classes pane. 2.In the Student Groups pane, select the set you want to rename. Your selection appears highlighted in blue. 3.Do one of the following: o Right-click and select Edit. In order to Edit the Set Name or... o Right-click and select Delete. In order to Delete the Set Name. 4.If Editing: The Edit Student Group Set window appears. Enter the name of the set (up to 5.Click OK. The updated set appears in the Students Group pane. 6.If Deleting: The Delete Selected Student Group Information window appears. 7.Click Yes to delete the set. Gradebook – Editing Student Groups

41 Gradebook – Adding Students to Groups After you have created a set and created one or more groups within a set, you can add students to a group. Note: Students can only belong to one group within a given set. 1.Select a class from the Classes pane. 2.In the Student Groups pane, click the expanding arrow next to the set that contains the group you want to add students to. 3.Select the group. Your selection appears highlighted in blue. 4.Click the Scoresheet tab. The Scoresheet window appears.

42 5.Select the student you want to add. The student appears highlighted in blue. Note: Press and hold COMMAND (Mac) or CONTROL (Windows) to select multiple students. 6.Drag and drop the student into the group. Note: If one or more students already belong to a group, the Move Students to Group window appears. Click Move Eligible to add the remaining students, click Move All to add all the students, or click Cancel. Gradebook – Adding Students to Groups (continued)

43 Gradebook - Student Information The Student Info tab displays a list of students enrolled in a class and basic information about each student.

44 Gradebook - Reports Power Teacher gradebook offers a selection of reports to assist you in daily classroom activities, as well as with assessing student performance. By using the Reports tab, you can generate reports for: all students who are enrolled in a class, all students who are enrolled in all your classes, a specific set, group, individual student, selection of students, or any combination.

45 Gradebook - Final Grade & Student View Modes On the Scoresheet, use Final Grade mode to view all final grade information for the selected reporting term. You can also enter final grades for additional components and view final grade category totals for the term. The Student View mode lists all assignments on the left, and the standards across the top. Teachers can select any student to get a concise look at all of a student’s assignments, standard scores, course grades and final grades across all reporting terms. This mode was designed for analyzing a student’s performance, reviewing the calculated standards grades, and making final grade determinations. This mode is also great for parent/teacher or student/teacher conferences.

46 Allows you to send emails to an individual student/parent; group of students/parents or an entire class of students/parents and provides real-time feedback on assignments. Click Tools. Select Email Students and Parents. Select Class or Classes you want to communicate with. Click Next. Select Student(s)/Parent(s). Type the subject on the Subject Line. Type message in the Message Box. Click Send Now. Gradebook – Parent/Student Communication Features Note: Only Parents and students with email address can be sent communication within this module.
