1 Great Changes in ESL for Fall 2013! The changes outlined in this presentation have been implemented into the ESL Dept course offerings implemented into the ESL Dept course offerings based on input from our English & Counseling colleagues as well as from our ESL students. 2 LEAP Program Offerings The LEAP Program The LEAP Program (Learning English for Academic Purposes) has two options: 1) The A/B/C classes, which must be taken concurrently OR 2) The D & E classes, which can be taken separately & which also include technology skills. For the academic year Fall 2013 through Spring 2014, the ESL Department will be offering the D & E classes exclusively instead of the A/B/C courses in an effort to meet student demand and needs. 3 Look at these new schedules: Old schedule: Mornings:8:00-10:15 Lab Classes: 11:00 am-1:10pm Afternoons: 1:30 pm -3:50 pm Evenings: 6:30pm -8:55 pm New Times: Morning classes: from 8:30-10:45 am Morning classes: from 8:30-10:45 am Afternoon classes: 11:30 am-1:45 pm Afternoon classes: 11:30 am-1:45 pm Evening classes: from 6:00-8:15 pm Evening classes: from 6:00-8:15 pm

4 There are five options for students! Option 1: Mon-Thursday 8:30 am -10:45 am Option 1: Mon-Thursday 8:30 am -10:45 am Take the D class on Mon/Weds & the E class on Tues/Thurs. Taking both D and E allows you to move the next semester into a higher level of LEAP; you can also retest at the end to see if you place higher!

Electives include: ESL 15 Pronunciation ESL 16 Basic Speech for ESL Students ESL 17 Gramática Comparativa/Comparative Grammar ESL 18 ESL for Math ESL 103 Intermediate Writing (Online class!) ESL 104 Advanced Writing (Online class!) ESL 30 Intermediate Grammar (Online class!) ESL 40 Advanced Grammar (both online and on campus)
