2 Attendance and Tardies ■ Students may enter the rooms at 7:15 am ■ Anyone entering the classroom after 7:45 is considered tardy. ■ Instructional day ends at 2:45. ■ Please try to schedule appointments after school. ■ Please email eleattendance@cms.k12.nc.us and copy your child’s teacher in the email if your child is absent.eleattendance@cms.k12.nc.us ■ Students who attend school regularly and on time are more successful. ■ As a team, we hope to maximize your child’s learning potential.

5 Homework Policy ▶ At Least 20-30 Minutes of Reading. ▶ Homework may be assigned from different teachers- literacy, math, science, social studies, and homeroom. ▶ Check agenda daily for homework and important information. Help your child develop good homework habits.

6 Weekly Assessments ▶ Common assessments ▶ Literacy and Word Work ▶ Math quizzes ▶ S.S. and Science quizzes and tests are announced 2- 4 days in advance with a study guide or class notes. ▶ Students are learning the grading scale. ▶ Check your child’s agenda

7 Grading Scale ▶ A = 90-100 Excellent ▶ B = 80-89 Very Good ▶ C = 70-79 Satisfactory ▶ D = 60-69 Low Performance ▶ F = Below 60 Unsatisfactory ▶ Transition Into Third Grade: a “3” in second grade is equal to 80-100% on the grading scale for 3-5. ▶ Grades are earned, not given.

8 CMS and State Assessments ▶ MAPS Assessment (Measures of Academic Progress for Students) 3 times a year ▶ Reading 3D (Measures Reading Growth throughout the year) ▶ BOG only for reading - Tuesday – Sept. 13th ▶ EOG for Reading and Math ▶ CMS and State assessments are NOT reflected on your child’s report card.

9 First Quarter Conferences ▶ Monday, October 31 st ▶ Schedule vacations accordingly ▶ Please sign up for a conference.

10 SOAR Behavior Plan ▶ All third grade classrooms will follow this plan ▶ Students are expected to follow the ELE SOAR Matrix. Failure to do so will result in a strike (or -1) which will be recorded in the agenda. ▶ Parents need to review and initial agendas EACH night. ▶ Students will be awarded tickets for making good choices, showing leadership, having agenda signed and completed correctly.

11 New ELE Birthday Policy ▶ The Elizabeth Lane School Leadership Team has changed the policy on hosting food treats for birthday celebrations at school. ▶ Parents will no longer be allowed to distribute birthday treats to the class. Parents are still welcome to bring lunch and/or a birthday treat for their own child. ▶ In lieu of serving a treat, parents may have a book donated to the library in honor of their child’s birthday. Birthday Book forms are available in the office, on the ELE PTA website and in the ELE Media Center. ▶ Flowers, treat bags and/or balloons are NOT permitted in the cafeteria, classroom or bus.

12 Fruit and Veggie Time ▶ As a grade level, we have adopted a new policy concerning snack. ▶ Each day, students have the option of bringing a FRESH fruit or veggie for snack. It must be fresh – not packaged, dried, etc. Please place snack in a separate bag than your child’s lunch. ▶ Some yummy examples are sliced apples, a banana, grapes, strawberries, carrots, celery, cantaloupe, etc. ▶ Thank you for your support in keeping our bodies healthy!

13 Classroom Fees ▶ This year we are asking for a one time fee to cover grade level expenses. Money will be collected online. Some examples of expenses include: ▶ Field trip to Matthews Playhouse ▶ Field trip to Discovery Place ▶ EOG Workbooks (Literacy and Math) ▶ Motivation Math ▶ Class T-Shirt
