5 Reading Book Band System/ Independent reading Bug Club – This is due to be reviewed but pupils do still have access to this. Children are responsible for independently changing their reading books for home, as and when they need to.

7 Reading Expectations:

8 Spellings:  Pupils will be given 8 spellings to learn on a weekly basis (Given out on a Monday).  Tested on a Friday on these spellings; plus 6 unseen words, which fit the pattern/spelling rule being focused on. However high frequency words, which do not follow a specific pattern, may at times also be given.  Some weeks, just high frequency words will be given and so there will be more spellings to learn, but no unseen.

9 Spellings: Within a piece of writing, a child’s spelling errors are identified by the teacher through the use of ‘sp,’ which is recorded in the margin. No more than 3 errors are identified and these are selected according to the child’s ability level. The child will be expected to self-correct the spelling using dictionaries to support.

10 Grammar: Significant focus within the curriculum on grammar and punctuation within all year groups. This is tested at the end of each key stage in a test situation, however it is also vital that these skills are applied within children’s own writing. Within a piece of writing, a child’s punctuation errors are identified by the teacher through the use of ‘p,’ which is recorded in the margin.

18 4 main writing purposes

19 Handwriting Handwriting is practised in short sessions during the school day so that children are taught correct letter formation and joining. Children should have a neat legible, joined style of writing by the end of year 3. Children are encouraged to apply this to all their writing in school as well as their homework.

20 Maths Focus on: *Fluency- children’s ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. *Reason- follow a line of enquiry, make generalisations, justify or proof something. *Problem Solve- apply their knowledge, break down problems and persevere to solve problems.

21 Maths Passports Maths passports were launched in HFT6. They are a list of expected key facts that children are expected to know for their year group. These key facts are progressive and run from Years 1 - 5. Please ensure your child’s passport is in their reading bag at all times. Children will be assessed against these facts in class and by parent volunteers. Your child will be given bronze, silver or gold depending on their knowledge, speed and accuracy against each fact. Your child’s passport will be dated so that you are aware of their achievements.

25 PE Pupils are expected to dress appropriately for school. All jewellery to be removed. All pupils must have their PE kit in school for their PE lessons bring in on a Monday and take home on a Friday. PE takes place in all weathers. Please provide appropriate kit for inclement weather e.g. tracksuit & waterproof clothing. Staff keep a record of pupils who have not brought their PE kits to school. Parents will be contacted if PE kit is not in school.

26 Lost Property Will be emptied on a weekly basis and named items will be returned to pupils. Any unnamed items will be kept for a week. If they are not claimed after a week then these items will be given to charity shops. Please ensure that all items are named!

27 Homework KS2 pupils receive 1 piece of English and 1 piece of Maths homework on a weekly basis (sent home on a Friday and returned completed on a Tuesday) Weekly spellings Daily reading Homework information sheet stuck in child’s homework book(s) (Child evaluation section and parental comments and signature required)

29 Homework All pupils should complete their homework in pencil unless they have been awarded a pen licence. All homework should be presented following the school’s presentation and handwriting policy. Teachers will be commenting on the standard of presentation within homework books etc. We expect homework to be completed and parents to support us.
