3 Interim Assessment Frameworks
The interim frameworks used in will be used in They set out the standards a pupil will be assessed against. Teachers must refer to the frameworks to report their judgements at the end of key stages 1 and 2. They are only intended for use in making judgements at the end of a key stage. They don’t include full coverage of the national curriculum. They focus on key aspects for assessment.

4 Interim Assessment Frameworks
Structure of the frameworks The frameworks contain a number of ‘pupil can’ statements. To demonstrate that pupils have met a standard, teachers will need to have evidence that a pupil demonstrates consistent attainment of all the statements within the standard and all the statements in any preceding standard(s). Some statements contain qualifiers - some, many and most. Exemplification materials providing further guidance are available.

5 What assessments for EYFS?
No longer a National Baseline Assessment. During the year Reception staff will complete on- going assessment across all areas of the Foundation Curriculum for school based assessment. Children will be assessed at the end of the year against the Early Learning Goals in 12 areas- PSED, CLL, reading, writing and maths. Assessments may be moderated by EYFS Lead, Federation Lead and SLT. Children will be assessed as Emerging, Expected or Exceeding within the Early Learning Goals. This will be reported to parents at the end of the year.

6 When are the 2017 KS1 tests?

7 Year 1 Phonics Screen At the moment no change from last year.
Children asked to read 40 words and non words. Pass or fail score Pass mark is released after all the test scores have been submitted to DFE This year the pass mark was 32 Children practice the test throughout the year.

8 When are the 2017 KS2 tests?

9 Key stage 2 frameworks: standards
For English writing pupils will be grouped into 4 categories: working towards the expected standard working at the expected standard working at greater depth within the expected standard or a category for pupils who do not meet the ‘working towards the expected standard’ For English reading, mathematics and science pupils will be grouped into 2 categories: working at the expected standard or a category for pupils who do not meet the standard

10 SATs 2017 *Significant changes to SATs in 2016 *With the removal of levels, children will no longer be given a level at the end of Y6. Children will now receive a scaled score. *Scaled scores maintain their meaning over time so that two pupils achieving the same scaled score on two different tests will have demonstrated the same attainment. *A scale of 100 will always represent the ‘national standard’.

11 Year 6 SATs 2017 For English writing - 3 standards:
working towards the expected standard working at the expected standard working at greater depth within the expected standard. For English reading, mathematics and science, there is one standard (working at the expected standard).

12 Year 6 SATs 2017 In 2017 Year 6 pupils will sit the following tests:
Reading Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Test Mathematics

13 Reading Reading will be a single paper with questions for the pupils to complete. There will be a variety of texts with between words in total. 1 hour test in total, including reading time, to complete the test. (50 marks) Variety of different question types including: *Ranking/ordering, e.g. ‘Number the events below to show the order in which they happen in the story’ *Labelling, e.g. ‘Label the text to show the title of the story’ *Find and copy, e.g. ‘Find and copy one word that suggests what the weather is like in the story’ *Short constructed response, e.g. ‘What does the bear eat?’ *Open-ended response, e.g. ‘Look at the sentence that begins Once upon a time. How does the writer increase the tension throughout this paragraph? Explain fully, referring to the text in your answer.’

14 Reading Reading *Guided reading sessions still taking place daily within school, as this is the best way for children to learn a range of reading skills, including an understanding of authorial technique and how to answer test questions effectively. *The children should be reading a range of texts (including classics and more challenging books) at home daily, including reading to an adult to discuss vocabulary use in context.

15 Reading Reading Reading test consists of texts of varying difficulty.
They are encouraged to read and answer questions on one text at a time. Removal of level 6 paper, however this means there will be more challenging questions on the paper that all children are sitting.

16 Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation and Vocabulary
New curriculum for English – significant emphasis on children knowing, understanding and applying terminology relating to grammar and punctuation. Practising grammar all the time both as discrete grammar exercises and with the children applying this knowledge to their own writing. Needs to be continually reinforced through homework and on-line activities.

17 Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation and Vocabulary.
Pupils will sit a 45 minute test. Spelling test- 20 unseen words- read in context. Significant emphasis on spelling this year compared to previous years not only in their SPAG test but also in their own writing.

21 Spellings: Year 6 specific:
Pupils are given 10 spellings to learn on a weekly basis, based on a spelling rule which is also provided to learn. Tested on a Friday on these spellings plus some unseen words which fit the pattern/spelling rule focusing on.

22 Spellings: Within a piece of writing a child’s spelling errors are identified by the teacher through the use of underlining the word which is recorded in the margin or at the bottom of the page. No more than 3 errors are identified and these are selected according to the child’s ability level. The child will be expected to copy then self-correct in their writing - dictionaries used to support.

23 Handwriting Handwriting is practised in short sessions during the school day so that children are taught correct letter formation and joining. Children should have a neat legible, joined style of writing by the end of year 3. Unless the children write in a joined, legible and fluent style, they cannot be awarded ‘working at expected standard’. Children are encouraged to apply this to all their writing in school as well as their homework. Pen licences are issued through the year.

28 Mathematics Maths Arithmetic test (30 minutes)- Range of context free questions. Reasoning paper (40 minutes) – 40 marks in total.

29 Maths Focus on: *Fluency- children’s ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. *Reason- follow a line of enquiry, make generalisations, justify or proof something. *Problem Solve- apply their knowledge, break down problems and persevere to solve problems.

30 Arithmetic Test Mental mathematics test removed.
Arithmetic test introduced to assess basic mathematical calculations. No contextualised questions. 36 questions, 40 marks available, 30 minutes duration. Questions will cover: * straightforward addition and subtraction *more complex calculations with fractions *long divisions and long multiplications.

33 Writing *No longer an externally assessed writing test for the children to sit. *All writing is assessed through teacher assessment- evidence from throughout the year. *Evidence gained from all books. *Moderators will come into school to scrutinise teacher assessment judgements.

34 Writing *Introduced interim standards for this academic year.
*All teachers in Y6 will be moderating writing against the interim standards with other schools within the Federation. *Exceptionally high standards for: Handwriting Spelling Grammar & punctuation.

35 Writing The children will be assessed as either ‘working towards the expected standard’, ‘working at the expected standard’ or ‘working at greater depth’. For children to be working at expected standard, they must consistently demonstrate ALL these features, ALL of the time:

36 Writing – Expected standard.
The pupil can write for a range of purposes and audiences (including writing a short story): creating atmosphere, and integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action selecting vocabulary and grammatical structures that reflect the level of formality required mostly correctly using a range of cohesive devices*, including adverbials, within and across sentences and paragraphs using passive and modal verbs mostly appropriately using a wide range of clause structures, sometimes varying their position within the sentence using adverbs, preposition phrases and expanded noun phrases effectively to add detail, qualification and precision using inverted commas, commas for clarity, and punctuation for parenthesis mostly correctly, and making some correct use of semi-colons, dashes, colons and hyphens spelling most words correctly, including common exception words* (years 5 and 6) maintaining legibility, fluency and speed in handwriting through choosing whether or not to join specific letters.

Y6 pupils should still be reading out loud to an adult at least 3 x per week Model supports transition to Secondary School.

38 How can you support at home?
* Encourage healthy learning habits e.g. independent learning, support in completion of homework, little often is more productive, regular sleep, water, diet & exercise *Ensure every piece of homework is completed to a high standard. (initial your child’s homework at the end to acknowledge your child’s effort and ability) *Read, read and read again with your child! (development of vocabulary) *Use of My Maths & Bug Club resources which school subscribes to enabling access for your child. *Use of revision books and websites.

41 Homework KS2 and KS1 pupils receive 1 piece of English and 1 piece of Maths homework on a weekly basis (sent home on a Thursday and returned completed on the following Tuesday) Weekly spellings Daily reading Homework information sheet stuck in child’s homework Reading record to be completed by parents please.

42 Homework All pupils should complete their homework in pencil unless they have been awarded a pen licence. All homework should be presented following the school’s presentation and handwriting policy. Teachers will be commenting on the standard of presentation within homework books etc. We expect homework to be completed and handed in on time and parents to support us.

43 Booster Groups Maths Booster has begun twice weekly for Year 6 children. Later in the year, other groups of children will be invited to take part in SPAG and Maths booster sessions after school.
