4 Reading Guided reading- *Guided reading session with teacher 1x weekly (Teacher will record focus of this in reading record book) More challenging than independent reading – 90% accuracy *Additional session with a TA 1 x weekly- TA will sign reading record book.

5 Reading Book Band System/ Independent reading 95% accuracy
Bug Club – This is due to be reviewed but pupils do still have access to this. System for changing books – Children to read books twice. Parents to initial twice. Children can change as often as they like. Second read needs to be fluent and accurate. Children are responsible for changing their own books. TA changes books each morning first thing- Target to change twice a week/ children to try to read every night either to themselves or to an Adult.

14 Grammar: Significant focus within the curriculum on grammar and punctuation within all year groups. This is tested at the end of each key stage in a test situation, however it is also vital that these skills are applied within children’s own writing.

19 Handwriting Handwriting is practised in short sessions during the school day so that children are taught correct letter and number formation and joining. Children should have a neat legible, joined style of writing by the end of year 3. Children are encouraged to apply this to all their writing in school as well as their homework.

21 Maths Focus on: *Fluency- children’s ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. *Reason- follow a line of enquiry, make generalisations, justify or proof something. *Problem Solving- apply their knowledge, break down problems and persevere to solve problems.

23 Maths Passports Maths passports were launched in HFT6. They are a list of expected key facts that children are expected to know for their year group. These key facts are progressive and run from Years 1 -5. Please ensure your child’s passport is in their reading bag at all times. Children will be assessed against these facts in class and by parent volunteers. Your child will be given bronze, silver or gold depending on their knowledge, speed and accuracy against each fact. Your child’s passport will be dated so that you are aware of their achievements.

Count to and across 100, forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, or from any given number Count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs Given a number, identify one more and one less Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20 Add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero Recognise, find and name a half as one of two equal parts of an object, shape or quantity Recognise, find and name a quarter as one of four equal parts of an object, shape or quantity. 26 PE Pupils are expected to dress appropriately for school.
All jewellery to be removed. All pupils must have their PE kit in school for their PE lessons bring in on a Monday and take home on a Friday if it needs washing. PE takes place in all weathers. Please provide appropriate kit for inclement weather e.g. tracksuit/shorts/trainers & waterproof clothing. Staff keep a record of pupils who have not brought their PE kits to school. 28 Lost Property Will be emptied on a weekly basis and named items will be returned to pupils. Any unnamed items will be kept for a week. If they are not claimed after a week then these items will be given to charity shops. Please ensure that all items are named!

29 Homework At KS1 pupils will receive either a piece of English or Maths homework on a weekly basis and then this will be alternated. (Sent home on a Friday returned on a Tuesday) Spellings- Year 2 (Phased in approach in Year 1) Reading- Year 1 and Year 2 daily. Overview Homework sheet- stuck in child’s book (Parental comments welcomed and sign to record seen child’s homework.)

31 Homework All pupils should complete their homework in pencil.
All homework should be presented following the school’s presentation and handwriting policy. Teachers will be commenting on the standard of presentation within homework books etc. We expect homework to be completed and parents to support us.
