TED Unit 2 Notes

What is population growth? Population growth an increase in the number of people who inhabit a territory or state. An increase in population can cause a number of new problems to arise. In the 18th century, the population in England almost doubled and profoundly affected the demand for textiles. As a result, tremendous pressure was placed on textile manufacturers to produce more products with fewer resources and was one of the factors that led to the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain. Two significant events that occurred during this period were the invention of the cotton-spinning jenny and the application of the steam engine towards textile manufacturing. This helped establish Great Britain as the world's first industrialized nation. This story above is an example of how:

A. Technology should be used to control population growth. B. Technological developments result in the creation of new problems. C. An increase in human population leads to the creation of new problems. D. Technology increases the quality of life of the middle class.

What type of improvements were there in products during the Renaissance period? During the Renaissance period, a number of new products were created showing more detail and precision. This suggests that there were improvements in methods of measuring (allowing more precision) The representative artifacts (e.g. Barometer, clocks, etc) for the Renaissance period appear more detailed and are constructed with more precision, than in previous periods. This suggests that there may have been improvements in:

A. Methods of measuring B. Computer-integrated manufacturing C. Human creativity D. Public education
