Biomass-based Renewable Energy as the Solution to Face ASEAN Economic Community 2015 M. Ibnu Fajri, Himayatus Shalihah, Dirga Permata J. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science Universitas Gadjah Mada

600 Million People 10 Associated Countries Covers a Land Area of 4.46 Million km² Association of Southeast Asian Nations

1. Single Market and Production Base 3. A region of equitable economic development 2. A highly competitive economic region 4. A region that fully integrated to the global market

PTPN X has been contracting on bioethanol’s export by the Philippines and Singapore. Exporting high quality fuel grade of bio- ethanol with purity up to 99.5% resulting the octane number (RON) 120 If the government program requiring the use of bio-ethanol in blending with oil fuel is implemented, bio-ethanol regional industry would grow fast

Three themes have emerged that define the top companies. 1. Lowest-cost winner. 2. Strong government relations are a must. 3. Strong local partners. Bankchak Petroleum This Thailand’s petrochemical giant has been primarily to date working on cassava-based ethanol, but has lately branched into algae. PTT This another thailand state oil and gas giant has a massive chemical arm that has been investing heavily in advanced technologies, as well as opening its 400,000 liter per day cassava and molasses-based ethanol production facility in Ubon Ratchani in November. Vinythai More under the radar than some of the petrochem giants operating in Thailand, Vinythai has commissioned plant number one, transforming glycerin into higher-value products.

Microalgae for rural area’s community Technical assistance for solar power plant in the rural area Education for the society on the manufacture and treatment microhydro power plant Community Development

ASEAN Centre of Energy The Center is envisioned to be a catalyst for the economic growth and development of the ASEAN region by initiating, coordinating and facilitating regional as well as joint and collective activities on energy Programs: 1.ASEAN Power Grid; 2.Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline; 3.Coal and Clean Coal Technology Promotion; 4.Energy Efficiency and Conservation Promotion; 5.New and Renewable Energy Development; 6.Energy Policy and Environmental Analysis; and 7.Civilian Nuclear Energy.

The AEC 2015 will be arrived soon. Go get energy sector secure by promote, do research, and choose renewable energy as choice to fulfill our energy demand. We do believe that ASEAN can be a production base of renewable energy, especially biomass-based fuel due to our potency and we need an extra hard work to make this dreams come true, yet we need a strong collaboration from the government, private sector, students, and the society.
