2. Descriptions of Plagiarism The author lists several reasons why students cheat. The two most familiar are the following: 1. Finding the shortest route possible to get assignments done. 2. Students are faced with many choices so they sacrifice their low priorities to get other things done. These unacceptable behaviors can be reduced or eliminated by: a. Explain to them what plagiarism is and give them the consequences of plagiarism. b. Change up different components of each paper so they can’t copy papers from other students or find papers online. 9. Prevention Techniques Be clear on the assignments: Give them expectations of each assignment and show examples. Provide specific topics: Give them certain topics to write upon and if student has one it needs to be clarified through you. How to Detect Plagiarism Use a plagiarism detection: Look up a plagiarism detection site online and search the title of the paper Look for clues: Look to see if the citations are different or out of order and see the formatting of the document is right. 11. References Read the articles listed below on plagiarism, found in Wilson Select Plus e- library. In the Curbing cheating it talked about how students cheat but they believe in have good moral character. It also gives percentages of how many students actually cheat on school work and tests. The three things that benefit me from this is that how much students actually cheat and how as a teacher we need to be looking for the cheating and checking. As a teacher it is important to actually give assignments that are worth doing and not giving students busy work. The third thing that I got out of this is that promoting integrity is more important and is said to be more beneficial. 1.I believe that they students are right that when you submit things to an online source a lot of hits will come up with certain words that are being used over and over again. I also believe that submitting things to an online source wont work because it will be able to find a lot of things online about certain subjects.
