3. Pronouns l Subject pronouns are used as the subject of the sentence: He is my favourite uncle. They live in a house in my street.

4. Pronouns l Object pronouns are used as the direct or indirect object of a verb. They are also used after prepositions: Look at my new camera; I bought it yesterday. Susan sent me a present. Can I go to the party with them?

5. Pronouns l Reflexive pronouns are used when the subject and the object of the verb are the same person or thing. When she saw herself in the mirror she couldn’t believe it.

6. Pronouns l Reflexive pronouns are also used to emphasise. Teacher: “Who did your homework?” Student: “Nobody helped me; I did it myself”.

7. Possessive Forms l Possessive adjectives accompany the noun: My house is over there. Where’s your car?

8. Possessive Forms l Possessive pronouns substitute the noun: Don’t touch that bicycle; it’s mine (= my bicycle). This is my umbrella; yours (= your umbrella) is in the hall.

9. Possessive Forms l In the Saxon Genitive we usually add ‘s but we add ‘ to a plural noun ending with s. This is Bob’s phone. The boys’ rooms are very clean.
