1 November 2014 Accelerated Reader Reminders Rocky Run is conducting a school-wide initiative to help motivate students to read more books and take more AR quizzes. If the school reaches their goal, then Mr. Roman will be taped to the wall! Although students cannot take their AR quizzes at home, there’s a lot you can do to help them. Remind your student to take quizzes at school. They can be taken in the morning before announcements in the library, on library day, on computer lab day, or on the day their teacher is scheduled to use the iPads. They may also exchange their books for new ones in between their scheduled library day. If your child is reading books from their home library or public library, you can check out the “AR book Find” link under student resources to see if the book is an AR book. If there is anything you need, please let your child’s teacher know. Classroom Wish Lists Many parents have asked if they can provide additional supplies for their child’s class. Thank you so much for your generous offers! These are some supplies the teachers would love to receive at any time during the year… hand sanitizer wide ruled notebook paper It’s hard to believe that the first quarter of the school year is over! The teachers are busy preparing report cards, as well as compiling data from assessments and classroom observations to share with you at our first conferences! Conferences are planned for the week of November 10-14. Your child’s teacher has planned specific days and times during the week for her conferences. Please return the conference letter you received as soon as possible. Please indicate your top 3 conference times. We will do our best to schedule your conference at one of those times. The early times fill up fast. We appreciate your understanding! Your child’s teacher will send a confirmation of your time. Conferences are planned in 15 minute intervals. It is important for us to stay on schedule, so please arrive 5 minutes early. If we feel that we need more than 15 minutes to discuss your child’s progress, we will plan to reconvene at another time. We look forward to meeting with you! Addition Quizzes Please read the letter about addition facts that was sent home. Your child should be studying these facts on a daily basis. Your child will sign up at school to take quizzes on the facts they have mastered. The quizzes are timed, so your child must have automatic recall of the facts. The quizzes they take will also count as a mental math grade on the next report card. With each quiz your child takes, they will earn pieces to create a gingerbread house on December 19 th. The number of decorations your child will use will be determined by the addition quizzes they pass.
