4  Abilities  Interests  Values  Goals for the future i.e. career options  Diploma Requirements  Advice from others(parents & family, teacher recommendation)

5  Each high school course is worth a specific number of credits.  Most courses are worth 3 or 5 credits.  Career and Technologies Studies (CTS) courses are 1 credit each.  A mark of at least 50% must be achieved to receive the credits for a course or module. 100 “Credits”

6  Physical Education 10  Math -10 credits  Science -10 credits  CALM 20  English -15 credits  Social Studies - 15 credits  10 credits in Fine Arts/CTS/P.E./2 nd Lang…  10 other credits at the 30 level  28 other credits to total a minimum of 100 credits

7  Physical Education 10  Math 10-3 or 20-4  Science 14 or 20-4  CALM 20  Social Studies 20-4  English 20-2 or 30-4  5 credits in CTS/30 level K and E  5 other credits in Work Experience 35  Shows commitment to complete a program

8  Complementary courses are those that may be chosen to complete the required 100 credits.  Fine Arts, Languages, CTS, Personal Fitness and Training, Volunteerism  Work Experience (only available on successful completion of Career Transitions 10 modules)

9  A prerequisite course is one that is required in order to move on to the next level.  Example: Math 10-3 is a prerequisite for Math 20-3.  Recommend a minimum of 65% in Eng. 9 to take Eng. 10-1 and 65% in Eng. 10-1 to move into Eng. 20-1

10  Grade 10 and 11 students at Vegreville Composite High School are expected to have a full schedule of courses.  A full load is 40-42 credits. (no “spares”)  Grade 12 students must have a 35-credit course load in order to participate in the Graduation Ceremonies. (1 spare)

11  A provincial exam is administered for: - English 30-1 & English 30-2 - Social 30-1 & Social 30-2 - Math 30-1 & Math 30-2 - Physics 30, Chemistry 30, Biology 30 - These exams are worth 50% of the final grade. School mark is worth 50%.

12 Typical Grade 10 Course Streams  English 10-2, Social 10-2, Math 10C or Math 10-3, Science 10 or 14  English 10-4, Social 10-4, Math 10-4 Science 10-4  English 10-1, Social 10-1, Math 10C, Science 10

13 How is Grade 10 different than Junior High?  More homework, courses are semestered. 1.5-2 hours/night  Courses require a firm work ethic.  You must achieve a minimum of 50% to earn credits. Re-do can be scheduled and then the highest mark is used.  *Students who complete less than 20 credits in Grade 10 could be directed to Next Step (attendance, lack of effort etc)

14 Additional Programs  Green Certificate - 1-Compulsory 1-credit pre-requisite course (AGR 3000) prior to beginning practical component  Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)-”officially” start RAP in Grade 11 After earning 3 credits in Work Experience- Career Transitions 5-Compulsory 1 credit pre-requisite courses including First Aid  Special Projects (example – Cosmetology students assisting with Jr. High program) & Volunteerism (1 credit for 25 hours)
