ISSUES THAT MAY INFLUENCE DECISION +European Commission roadmap +Mandate 479 +ISO 50001 Energy Management standards +Energy Efficiency Directive and repealing of Energy services Directive 3 System Approach

ENERGY MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE CEN TF 189 EN16001 Energy Management standard To be phased out CEN Pump System assessment standard CEN TC197 Pumps * Requirements for bodies Operating certification Of persons MSE2000:2008 Directive 2006/32/EC To be repealed ASME EA -2 2009 Assessment standard ISO 14414 EN ISO /IEC 17024 ISO *PC242 ISO 50001 Energy Management standard ISO Pump System assessment standard TC115 WG7 Requirements for bodies Operating certification of persons * Requires adoption by CEN – Vienna agreement

ENERGY MANAGEMENT, ASSESSMENT STANDARDS AND TRAINING MSE2000:2008 ASME EA -2 2009 Assessment standard ISO 14414 EN ISO /IEC 17024 ISO *TC242 ISO 50001 Energy Management standard ISO Pump System assessment standard TC115 WG7 Requirements for bodies Operating certification of persons PUMP SYSTEM TRAINING Facilitator Accreditation Certification of pump system auditor

6 Energy Standards Update ISO/CEN

ISO TC242 Meeting, Washington Oct/Nov 11  Four country lead: US, UK, China and Brazil  ISO 50001 proposed supporting standards:  WG1 Guidance for Implementation  WG1 Auditing of the EnMS  WG2 Baselines  WG2 Energy Performance Indicators, EnPI  WG3 Measurement and Verification, EVO links  WG4 Energy Audits

The TC 242 Issues and Challenges  Too many to start at once  Overlap within TC242 (energy management )  Overlap with TC 257 (general technical rules for determination of energy savings)  Ensure consistency across these overlaps  Energy Audits, prEN 16247-1, no delays to publication  The need for qualification of energy auditors  Standards or Guides?

EU Energy Audits Standard prEN 16247 Part 1 – General Requirements. To be published April 12 Part 2 – Buildings Part 3 – Process Part 4 – Transport RoadRailAviationMarine Parts 2, 3 & 4: Next meeting in London 7, 8, 9 February Out for consultation late 2012 Out for consultation late 2012

Develop Pan European System Standards:- Develop Pan European System Standards:-  Training Standards ( for the assessor )  Assessment tool/methodology ( software)  Assessment procedure ( EA2 /ISO 14414) EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Training Standards ( for the assessor ) Training Standards ( for the assessor ) To ensure the student is adequately equipped to carry out a pump system energy audit, as a minimum they should have a competent understanding of the following; EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Training Standards ( for the assessor ) Training Standards ( for the assessor )  Fluid energy basics  Fluid power relationship  Pump system energy basics  What information should be part of pre-screening ?  Which systems indicate potential energy saving opportunities ?  Field monitoring of pumping systems  System performance Characteristics  Liquid, pressure, elevation and density  Bernouli’s Principle or equation EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Training Standards ( for the assessor ) Training Standards ( for the assessor )  Friction factors and Dacy-Weisbach  Velocity  Total head, static head, friction head, understanding and examples  System curves  Pump Performance characteristics, head, shaft power, efficiency, NPSHA and NPSHR  Performance Curves  Pump Affinity laws  Parallel and Series pump operation EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Training Standards ( for the assessor ) Training Standards ( for the assessor )  Motor performance characteristics and power factor corrections  Variable Speed Drive performance Characteristics  Speed reduction and increase and its effects on rotodynamic pumps  Parallel pumping with different system types  Developing system performance curves from field data  Calculating valve CV factors  System demand and how do you achieve it?  Electrical measurements  Modelling and loss uncertainties EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Training Standards ( for the assessor ) Training Standards ( for the assessor )  Valve loss based analysis  Wire to liquid efficiency measurements  Load profile development  Load profile based analysis  What to do with collected information  Common solution types  Case studies and examples  Equipment selection considerations for current and future needs EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

To ensure the software is a suitable tool in evaluating information whilst carrying out a pump system energy audit, as a minimum it should be transparent and able to log and summarise system data ; EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH Assessment tool/methodology ( software)

Assessment tool/methodology ( software) Assessment tool/methodology ( software) The software should be suitable to;  Log pump nameplate data such as Pump type, number of stages, efficiency, rpm, viscosity, specific gravity, flow and head  Log pump site specific data such as Pump type, number of stages, efficiency, rpm, viscosity, specific gravity, flow and head  Log motor nameplate data such as Motor type, frame size, line frequency, kW, rpm, efficiency classification, voltage and amps EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Assessment tool/methodology ( software) Assessment tool/methodology ( software)  Perform pump head calculations with different configurations  Show pump performance curves after input of onsite data a synchronous speed and variable speed  Show system curves after input of onsite data  Make Valve Cv calculations  Identify potential electrical energy savings using unit cost of electricity EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Assessment tool/methodology ( software) Assessment tool/methodology ( software) Ideally the software should have pump and motor algorithms within its data base to compare the specific data to best available data. The main objective of the software is to identify the actual system demand and compare it with the current process data and advise what electrical energy savings can be made. EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

20 ISO 14414 (TC 115 WG7) ISO standard still at working draft level, the standard will include positive displacement pumps and possibly information on mechanical seal systems. Go ahead to re-convene working group now received. ASME EA2-2009 / ISO 14414 System Assessment Standards

System Standards or Guidelines :- Europump Technical Commission systems working group to meet and confirm the contents of the Training and software information and decide if these should be guidelines or standards. EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH

Technical Commission System working group members:- Steve Schofield John Bower Jean –Claude Bouricet Friedrich Kluetsch Gheorghita Pandelea Frank Ennenbach Gerhard Berge Pierre Plateus Tom Angle Andrea Pasquini EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH
