3 What is “certification”?  Professional Certification vs Assessment Based Certificate Program  Professional Certification “The primary focus is to provide an independent assessment of the knowledge, skills, and/or competencies required for competent performance of an occupational or professional role or specific work-related tasks and responsibilities.”  Assesses knowledge, skills, and/or competencies previously acquired  Goal is to validate the participant's competency through a conformity assessment system  Examples of professional certifications (source Institute for Credentialing Excellence) © 2016 GBTA. 9 Global Travel Professional ® (GTP) Certification  The GTP Certification is designed to raise industry standards, enhance work performance, and recognize individuals who demonstrate core competencies essential to the business travel management discipline  The GTP Certification examination is designed to meet testing industry standards for validity and reliability  Validity is the degree to which the content of the examination reflects the knowledge and skills required to perform the duties of a business travel professional  Reliability is the accuracy of the examination results; that is, the test and results are delivered in a consistent manner © 2016 GBTA. 11 Global Travel Professional ® (GTP) Certification Highlights  First delivered in 2012  Industry’s only certification program  125 multiple choice exam  To-date, over 400 travel professionals certified  Content based on overall knowledge of the industry  Administered at computer-based testing centers and at select GBTA events Eligibility Requirements  Minimum three years business travel experience  Demonstrated business travel related experience, defined as time spent buying or selling business travel services © 2016 GBTA. 12 Global Travel Professional ® (GTP) Certification GTP Exam Format  Examination is comprised of 125 multiple choice questions  Each question has four possible answers  There is not more than one answer to each question  100 questions are scored  25 are considered pretest questions, placed randomly throughout the exam  Candidates have three hours to take the examination © 2016 GBTA. 13 Global Travel Professional ® (GTP) Certification Recertification Process  Designed to provide a continuous process of learning and professional development  Ensures certificant holders remain well-versed in concepts, technology, principles, and best practices  Provides employers and professionals with a method of assessing continued professional development Recertification Requirements  GTP certification is valid for 3 years  50 recertification credits within a 3 year period  GTP Code of Professional Conduct maintained © 2016 GBTA. 15 Global Travel Professional ® (GTP) Certification Approved Provider Program  GTP Approved Provider Program allows organizations that offer business travel related educational sessions the opportunity to award recertification credits to GTP credential holders who participate in their offerings  All GBTA Chapters and Affiliates are considered Approved Providers, formal application to the program is not required  Approved Providers are able to submit Approved Provider Credit Applications to have their content reviewed for approval of GTP recertification credits © 2016 GBTA. 16 Global Travel Professional ® (GTP) Certification Approved Provider Credit Application Process  Submit a completed APCA Form  Credit Application Fee  Fees are per program  $75 Chapters  $100 for Affiliates  Chapters that sponsor 5 or more members for GTP exam will have fees waived; annual basis  Corporate  Annual Approved Provider Program Application fee: $1,000  Credit Application review fee per education session: $100  Non-Profit  Annual Approved Provider Program Application fee: $500  Credit Application review fee per education session: $100 © 2016 GBTA. 17 Global Travel Professional ® (GTP) Certification Approved Provider Credit Application Guidelines  One (1) recertification credit hour is awarded for 50 minutes of education  Following the 50 minutes, credits will be awarded in 30-minute increments, with each 30 minutes equating to one (1) additional credit  Time dedicated to non-educational activities, such as exhibit halls, meals, entertainment, etc does not count toward the total number of recertification credits Two Primary Factors  Content is related to business travel and is consistent with current GTP Test Content Outline  Length of the engagement(s); number of minutes/hours © 2016 GBTA.
