2 VPRD Office  is responsible for University’s research policies, with a specific goal to significantly strengthen Koç University’s position in research.  The following offices report to the VPRD:  Research, Project Development and TT Directorate  Research Centers  Graduate Institutes 2

3  Research Support:  Tracking & Info-distribution on external funding  Eligibility check for National / International project calls  Matching research interests with call priorities  Assistance in  procedures for funding applications  preparation for a succesful proposal (EU research strategies, Lisbon strategy)  partner search  legal advice (e.g. Contracts, IP Rights) 3 Research, Project Development & Technology Transfer Services

4  Research Support (Cont’d):  Assistance in implementation of research projects:  Preparation  Monitoring  Reporting  Resolving problem on your project budget 4 Research, Project Development & Technology Transfer Services

5  Facilitating University-Industry Collaboration:  Matchmaking activities between researchers & industry representatives  Networking with industry reps for collaboration in projects (externally funded or industry-funded)  Aiding industry in procuring services from KU research facilities 5 Research, Project Development & Technology Transfer Services

6  Technology Transfer Activities:  Assessing commercial potential of developed technologies at KU  Assisting researchers in technology commercialization  Guidance in protection of Technologies with proper IP mechanisms  Inventram: Our strategic partner in IP issues  KU Incubation Center: offers consultancy services for new venture development and entrepreneurship 6 Research, Project Development & Technology Transfer Services

12 Research Excellence: European Research Council (ERC) Grants 2 from TR: -KU, Özgür Barış Akan - Bilkent, Ömer İlday 1 from TR, but: - SAU, Mete Somer, took his grant to ETH Zurich 1 from TR: - KU, Hakan Ürey 1 from TR: - Bilkent, Ebru Erbay 2 from TR: -KU, Kerem Pekkan - Bilkent, Mehmet Bayındır ERC grant years with successful applications from TR As of 2014, there are 8 active ERC grants in Turkey KU has 5 of them. Bilkent U. has 3. AdG Success rate 2008-2013: 14% StG Success rate 2007-2013: 11% 2 from TR: -KU, Cory Dunn - Özyeğin, Sedat Nizamoğlu, transferred to KU
