1 Comenius Project. Protect Nature. The Natural Park 3rd Grade Tierno Galván. Spain

2 Previous considerations Third grade classes are in a bilingual Project: Science and Art are taught exclusively in English. That’s why most of the sessions have been carried out in English, although some techers have participated in the activities in Spanish. Although both classes worked in different sessions, we built our park together. Most of the activities have been uploaded in our blog in the Comenius Corner: galvanito.blogspot.com

3 We visited El aula medioambiental “las Vaquerizas” in the Central Park. We learned many things

4 And we visited its garden

5 Brainstorming Key questions: What type of landscape is it? What natural and man-made features can you find? What plants are there? What buildings surround the park ? Would you like to have a park like this or even better? What plants would it have? What else would you like to have in your park? What name do you want for your park?

6 Then parents prepared the setting and we started making our growing trees and flowers

7 We also made a bridge, a lake, a water park, a cycling path, a garden, a road, a factory, buildings....

8 And we named our park: The Natural Park

9 Then we learned about soil in our text books.

13 We prepared short conversations in English. We learned a poem, wrote calygrams and stories in Spanish too. Minibeasts Families Conversations A poem

14 The incident One morning, some flowers and minibeast have disappeared from our Natural Park Brainstorming the causes: Why some minibeasts and flowers have disappeared? They have disappeared because: There is a lot of rubbish, glasses… on the ground. Cars, houses, factories and buses pollute the air/the soil and animals and plants die. People smoke. There are no cameras. Some people can picked up minibeasts and flowers –to play…-/ People aren’t carefull with the minibeasts. People walked on them /kill them./Children hide them. Mobile phones confuse animals and the predators eat them The batteries pollute the soil. There are many predators, like moles that eat minibeasts. People collect them and dry them. Animals fall down in the lake and die.

15 Solving the problem: The scientist Then the scientist came and helped to solve the problem. She also talked about the importance of soil and endangered animals and plants.

16 Solutions Finally, after brainstorming they wrote slogans and articles

17 And we planted seeds to take home

18 Parents afternoon We prepare an invitation and stickers to give to pupils and parents

19 Evaluation What have we learned? About the soil – the 3 types of soil…- Not to pollute. To work in groups That we can’t throw rubbish and papers on the ground. Animals are good for us, even the little ones. That soil is very important. Facts about insects. If we don’t take care of the soil, we won’t have soil in the future. If we pollute, the plants and animals would die. That without rubbish we can live better. We can’t live without animals and plants. If you drop rubbish on the ground, plants cannot grow. Without plants we wouldn’t have oxygen. That if we buy many things we pollute more. What did you like best?
