2 AGENDA EXPECTATIONS  Agendas should be filled out daily  Students are required to write the essential question and homework  Upcoming quizzes and tests will always be given with advanced notice  Students are expected to fill out their agendas independently as part of their morning routine  The agenda is also a place for missing assignment and behavior notifications

4 BOOK CELEBRATIONS Fifth grade teachers encourage and expect students to become independent readers. Instead of nightly reading logs, students will be asked to read a book at home then complete a book report in class during a “Book Celebration.” Students will be given many report choices and the date each celebration will take place.  Book Celebrations will begin in September; dates were already given to students for the entire year

10 SUPER SPECIALS Once every three weeks students will participate in a 2 ½ hour super special. During this time, they will be rotating through various STEAM labs. They will have a technology, engineering, math, project based learning, and music/art class each time.

11 ABSENCES AND TARDIES Please send a written note or email when your child is absent from school. Please send a note within 3 days. Students are counted tardy if they are not in the classroom at 7:40 a.m. Students with excessive tardies or unexcused absences will be referred to Mrs. Gray It is the student’s responsibility to request all make up work and to return to teacher in the same number of days the student was absent.

12 FOOD POLICIES Breakfast and Lunch is served daily.  Prepay available. Notification of lunch charges are sent home. The maximum of charges allowed for students is $9.00. If this limit is reached students will get an alternate meal (cheese sandwich and milk) Snacks Nutritious snacks that are easy to eat. We eat & work at the same time. Students may have a water bottle as well at their desk. PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF ALLERGIES IN CLASSROOMS! Birthdays Send invitations in the US Mail. Do not pass out at school. Teachers will celebrate classroom birthdays once a month on the last no specials day. Bringing items in is completely optional, however if you decide to, please bring in enough for the entire class. Please be mindful of allergies.

13 SAFETY AND VISITORS  Students have practiced and are aware of all safety drills.  Constant communication between staff and administration is practiced.  All doors remain locked during the day  All visitors must sign in at the front desk.  All volunteers must complete a “Volunteer Safety Information Form”

15 COMMUNICATION Email is the best way to contact teachers. Blue Folders are sent every other Friday with graded papers. These folders contain school information. Please review, sign, and return graded papers the following school day. All dismissal changes should be sent to the teacher in the morning. If you send an email throughout the day and the teacher does not respond please call the school. In the process of creating a grade level website that will have important information from each teachers class.
