3 Rules and Expectations 5 th grade students are expected to: Be ready and focused on the tasks at hand each day. Be positive, respectful, and courteous to others. Exemplify leadership for others to model. Report to class on time daily. Return homework/projects/class work on time when it is due. Learn and grow into brilliant minds.

4 Grading System A= 90 – 100 B= 80 - 89 C= 71 - 79 D= 70 F= Below 70

5 Reaching Excellence in Reading/Language Arts/Writing In Reading /Language Arts/Writing, students will learn:  The conventions of standard English  Identify author’s purpose, voice & explain how it impacts the experience  Quote accurately from a text and make inferences  Draw information from multiple sources on the same topic  How to write different texts for various purposes (narrative, informational, and opinion pieces)  How to conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic

9 Agendas How do they work? Students use them to record their homework assignments everyday. Teachers use them to communicate with parents. Parents use them to communicate with teachers and to confirm your child’s assignments. Things to Look for in the agenda: Your child’s homework assignment daily. A note from the teacher.

10 S afe Organized Accountable Respectful When positive behaviors are noticed throughout the building, faculty and staff will give the student’s SOAR card a hole punch. Students meeting the required number of punches at the end of the week will be rewarded with a treat. ARE’s Discipline Plan Routines and rituals will be taught and followed daily to build a positive learning environment. However, if students do not follow the classroom rules, the following steps will be taken: 1.Verbal Warning 2.Note in the agenda/deduct Scholar Dollar/Dojo points 3.Opportunity room/contact parent 4.Office Referral

11 Scholar Dollars What is it? Rewards system generated to encourage students to do their best academically, socially, and to become overall great leaders! Students track their own payments/deposits in their binders. Students receive rewards monthly.

12 Class Dojo Class Dojo’s mission is to reinvent classrooms by bringing teachers, students and parents closer together. Teachers use Class Dojo as a communication platform to encourage students, and get parents engaged too. Classrooms become positive places - which means there's no more “classroom management.” Just happier classrooms.

13 Students MUST be in class by 7:45 to be marked present. Students arriving after 7:45 must be brought into the front office for check-in by parent/guardian. If there is a change in transportation a signed note from the parent must be provided or teachers will follow the original transportation routine for your child. Attendance
