Version 1.0 30 September 2016 5 The Solution Break the All-in-one model into an entity specific one with fully functional entities Data Source Presentation Translation Provide means to integrate these entities at runtime Vendor Independence Extensible

Version 1.0 30 September 2016 6 Advantages of using XML No predefined semantics or tags (user defined tags) Is a Meta Language for defining tags Provides structure to the data content (words, pictures etc) Not bound by rigidity of tags as in HTML Tags are interpreted only by the applications that generate/consume them Easy to create & is human readable XML based documents can be easily exchanged over internet Is compatible with SGML (Standard General Markup Language) Why XML?

Version 1.0 30 September 2016 7 What is XML Publisher? Oracle XML Publisher is a new java-based product available within the technology stack of the Oracle E-Business Suite and offers a template-based, easy-to-use publishing solution, based on standard, well-known technologies and tools so customers can take advantage of it easily and to rapidly develop and maintain report formats.

Version 1.0 30 September 2016 8 Salient Features of XML Publisher Open Standards: XML Publisher is built on open standards technology such as J2EE for its own engine, XML for data handling, XSL-FO (Formating Objects) for presentation, PDF, RTF and HTML for outputs. Simple to design tools: XML Publisher report formats can be designed using Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat – tools most users are already familiar with. Any input data: As long as data is in XML format any data irrespective of its source can serve as input to XML publisher. Speed: XML Publisher is built on W3 XSL-FO Standard making it the fastest and most scalable platform today.

Version 1.0 30 September 2016 9 XML Publisher Architecture

Version 1.0 30 September 2016 10 XML Publisher Components Data Handler : Handles the data and generates the XML File. Template Manager : Handles the templates for the data in various formats. Translation Manager : Handles various language specific templates Delivery Server : The distributed delivery server model allows companies to set up servers in local countries to deliver output e.g. a US company with suppliers in Japan is able to fax POs via a delivery server in Japan incurring only local fax charges to Japan rather than from the US.
