About us

Ambition Make social action part of life for 10 – 20 year olds across the UK by 2020, moving from 40% to 60% of young people (1.5million more) participating in meaningful social action. Three sub-goals that underpin and support this and that are equally important to progress between now and 2020: Ensure all young people have the opportunity to participate Increase the quality of opportunities that are available Increase young people’s frequency of participation

of 10-20 year olds took part in meaningful social action 42% Appetite is high … but awareness is limited Youth Social Action in the UK – 2015: 2,021 young people aged 10-20 interviewed face-to-face in their homes between 2-19 September 2015, data weighted to be representative of the population of 10-20 year olds across the UK. 6 What are we doing? Evidence and communicate the benefits of youth social action Embed social action in a young persons journey from 10-20 Enable more high quality structured opportunities

Six quality principles

Young people taking a lead 18-24 year olds represent 12% of the total adult population, but they make up (0.5%) of trustees Estimates indicate half of charities have at least one board vacancy Involving young people isn’t new. British Youth Council have had young people as their Chair and on their board for much of their near 70 year history. How can you bring young people into leadership positions in your organisation?

Why does this matter? #iwill campaign partner Join in found that: 8 out of 10 sports clubs need more volunteers. Those that volunteer in sport are: 3 times more likely to feel part of their community 4 times more likely to trust people in their communitycommunity 8 times more likely to feel they have an influence over what their community is like How do we enable more young people to take part in social action and feel connected to their community?

Pledges

Who is doing what… Parkrun pledges to: work with Step Up To Serve to promote the positive role young people can play in voluntary sector organisations and the benefits it can bring to the individual and to communities encourage parkrun events across the UK to engage young people in volunteering roles celebrate young volunteers within parkrun and alert them to the opportunity to become #iwill ambassadors when the campaign is recruiting. The Football League Trust pledges to: Step up by supporting the community trusts based in the 72 professional football clubs of The Football League to create more opportunities for youth social action. We will do this through working to increase the numbers of trusts involved in NCS and the subsequent numbers of young people participating in NCS, and also help identify new opportunities for youth volunteering.

What can you do? Pledge your support for #iwill: Embed the six quality principles of youth social action provision into your work Celebrate young people who are taking a lead in developing youth social action and ensure young people have a voice in decision making Nominate young people as #iwill ambassadors Act as an ambassador for the #iwill campaign. Sharing your success stories and encouraging your partners to be involved
