Numbers 1-10 “Getting Ready To Go”
2
Numbers 10:11–12 (NLT) 11 In the second year after Israel’s departure from Egypt—on the twentieth day of the second month—the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle of the Covenant. 12 So the Israelites set out from the wilderness of Sinai and traveled on from place to place until the cloud stopped in the wilderness of Paran.
4
Numbers 9:11 11 They must offer the Passover sacrifice one month later, at twilight on the fourteenth day of the second month. They must eat the Passover lamb at that time with bitter salad greens and bread made without yeast. 12 They must not leave any of the lamb until the next morning, and they must not break any of its bones. They must follow all the normal regulations concerning the Passover.
5
Numbers 1:1-5 1 A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt, YaHWeH spoke to Moses in the Tabernacle in the wilderness of Sinai. On the first day of the second month of that year he said, 2 “From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. List all the men 3 twenty years old or older who are able to go to war. You and Aaron must register the troops,
6
Numbers 1:17-19 17 So Moses and Aaron called together these chosen leaders, 18 and they assembled the whole community of Israel on that very day. All the people were registered according to their ancestry by their clans and families. The men of Israel who were twenty years old or older were listed one by one, 19 just as YaHWeH had commanded Moses. So Moses recorded their names in the wilderness of Sinai.
7
Numbers 1:20-42 20 This is the number of men twenty years old or older who were able to go to war…: Reuben 46,500 22 Simeon 59,300 24 Gad 45,650 26 Judah 74,600 28 Issachar 54,400 30 Zebulun 57,400 32 Ephraim son of Joseph 40,500 34 Manasseh son of Joseph 32,200 36 Benjamin 35,400 38 Dan 62,700 40 Asher 41,500 42 Naphtali 53,400
8
Numbers 1:44-46 The total number was 603,550 44 These were the men registered by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, all listed according to their ancestral descent. 45 They were registered by families—all the men of Israel who were twenty years old or older and able to go to war. 46 The total number was 603,550.
9
Numbers 1:47-51 47 But this total did not include the Levites. 48 For YaHWeH had said to Moses, 49 “Do not include the tribe of Levi in the registration; do not count them with the rest of the Israelites. 50 Put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant, along with all its furnishings and equipment. They must carry the Tabernacle and all its furnishings as you travel, and they must take care of it and camp around it.
10
Numbers 1:52-54 Each tribe of Israel will camp in a designated area with its own family banner. The Levites are responsible to stand guard around the Tabernacle.” 52 Each tribe of Israel will camp in a designated area with its own family banner. 53 But the Levites will camp around the Tabernacle of the Covenant to protect the community of Israel from YaHWeH’s anger. The Levites are responsible to stand guard around the Tabernacle.” 54 So the Israelites did everything just as YaHWeH had commanded Moses.
11
Numbers 2:1-2 1 Then YaHWeH gave these instructions to Moses and Aaron: 2 “When the Israelites set up camp, each tribe will be assigned its own area. The tribal divisions will camp beneath their family banners on all four sides of the Tabernacle, but at some distance from it.
12
Numbers 2:3-9 These three tribes are to lead the way whenever the Israelites travel to a new campsite. 3 “The divisions of Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun are to camp toward the sunrise on the east side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners… 9 So the total of all the troops on Judah’s side of the camp is 186,400. These three tribes are to lead the way whenever the Israelites travel to a new campsite.
13
Numbers 2:10-17 17 “Then the Tabernacle, carried by the Levites, will set out from the middle of the camp. 10 “The divisions of Reuben, Simeon, and Gad are to camp on the south side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners… 16 So the total of all the troops on Reuben’s side of the camp is 151,450. These three tribes will be second in line whenever the Israelites travel. 17 “Then the Tabernacle, carried by the Levites, will set out from the middle of the camp.
14
Numbers 2:18-24 18 “The divisions of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin are to camp on the west side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners…So the total of all the troops on Ephraim’s side of the camp is 108,100. These three tribes will be third in line whenever the Israelites travel.
15
Numbers 2:25-31 These three tribes will be last, marching under their banners whenever the Israelites travel.” 25 “The divisions of Dan, Asher, and Naphtali are to camp on the north side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners… 31 So the total of all the troops on Dan’s side of the camp is 157,600. These three tribes will be last, marching under their banners whenever the Israelites travel.”
18
Matthew 28:19–20 (NASB95) 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
19
Numbers 5:1-4 a skin disease or a discharge, or who has become ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person. 1 YaHWeH gave these instructions to Moses: 2 “Command the people of Israel to remove from the camp anyone who has a skin disease or a discharge, or who has become ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person. 3 This command applies to men and women alike. Remove them so they will not defile the camp in which I live among them.” 4 So the Israelites did as YaHWeH had commanded Moses and removed such people from the camp.
20
Numbers 5:5-7 women—betray YaHWeH by doing wrong to another person, they are guilty. 7 They must confess their sin and make full restitution for what they have done, adding an additional 20 percent and returning it to the person who was wronged. 5 Then YaHWeH said to Moses, 6 “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel: If any of the people—men or women—betray YaHWeH by doing wrong to another person, they are guilty. 7 They must confess their sin and make full restitution for what they have done, adding an additional 20 percent and returning it to the person who was wronged.
21
Psalm 51:1–4 (NLT) 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. 1 Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. 2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. 3 For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.
22
1 John 1:5–10 (NLT) “to Him” 7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins “to Him”, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
23
Matthew 5:23–24 (NLT) 23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.
24
Luke 19:1–10 (NLT) “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” 7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. 8 Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” 9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
25
Numbers 5:11-15 If her husband becomes jealous and is suspicious of his wife 11 And YaHWeH said to Moses, 12 “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. “Suppose a man’s wife goes astray, and she is unfaithful to her husband… 14 If her husband becomes jealous and is suspicious of his wife and needs to know whether or not she has defiled herself, 15 the husband must bring his wife to the priest.
26
Numbers 5:16-18 17 He must take some holy water in a clay jar and pour into it dust he has taken from the Tabernacle floor. unbind her hair and place in her hands the offering of proof—the jealousy offering to determine whether her husband’s suspicions are justified. the jar of bitter water that brings a curse to those who are guilty 16 “The priest will then present her to stand trial before YaHWeH. 17 He must take some holy water in a clay jar and pour into it dust he has taken from the Tabernacle floor. 18 When the priest has presented the woman before YaHWeH, he must unbind her hair and place in her hands the offering of proof—the jealousy offering to determine whether her husband’s suspicions are justified. The priest will stand before her, holding the jar of bitter water that brings a curse to those who are guilty.
27
Numbers 5:27-28 28 But if she has not defiled herself and is pure, then she will be unharmed and will still be able to have children. 27 If she has defiled herself by being unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings on the curse will cause bitter suffering. Her abdomen will swell and her womb will shrink, and her name will become a curse among her people. 28 But if she has not defiled herself and is pure, then she will be unharmed and will still be able to have children.
28
This passage shows God’s concern to protect a wife from an unreasonably or oppressively jealous husband. Dr. Criswell “An inordinate self-centeredness or possessiveness, including an unreasonable demanding of another person more than is one's rightful due - requiring total and exclusive attention “An inordinate self-centeredness or possessiveness, including an unreasonable demanding of another person more than is one's rightful due - requiring total and exclusive attention. It stems from insecurities, which produce feelings that are threatened by any competition.”
29
“Jealousy” jealousy is like cancer in the bones. Proverbs 14:30 (NLT) A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones. but who can stand before jealousy Proverbs 27:4 (NIV84) Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?
30
James 3:15–16 (NLT) 16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. 15 For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. 16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NLT) Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud.
31
Leviticus 20:10 (NLT) “If a man commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death. “This legislation forbids human punishment of a woman on the basis of suspicion alone, and, in fact, protects her from what could be a death sentence at the hands of the community.” Ashley
32
John 8:1–11 (NLT) “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” 1 Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives… 3 As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. 4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”… 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
33
Numbers 6:1-2 1 Then YaHWeH said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. 2 “If any of the people, either men or women, take the special vow of a **Nazirite, setting themselves apart to YaHWeH in a special way… (**from the Hebrew root nazar, meaning “to separate”)
34
Numbers 6:4-6 4 As long as they are bound by their Nazirite vow, they are not allowed to eat or drink anything that comes from a grapevine—not even the grape seeds or skins. 5 “They must never cut their hair throughout the time of their vow, for they are holy and set apart to YaHWeH. 6 And they must not go near a dead body during the entire period of their vow to YaHWeH. 7 Even if the dead person is their own father, mother, brother, or sister...
35
Acts 18:18 (NLT) 18 Paul stayed in Corinth for some time after that, then said good-bye to the brothers and sisters and went to nearby Cenchrea. There he shaved his head according to Jewish custom, marking the end of a vow. Then he set sail for Syria, taking Priscilla and Aquila with him… 21:26 21:26 So Paul went to the Temple the next day with the other men. They had already started the purification ritual, so he publicly announced the date when their vows would end and sacrifices would be offered for each of them.
36
God did not require the taking of vows under the Mosaic Law. Consequently the fact that Paul took a Nazarite vow and paid the expenses of others who had taken one does not indicate that he was living under the Law of Moses. He was simply practicing a Jewish custom that prevailed as the Mosaic Law regulated that custom. He did this to win Jews to Jesus Christ, not because as a Christian Jew he was under the Mosaic Law. Tom Constable
37
“Come away from sin in every form, to avoid not merely its grosser shapes, but even its spirit and “similitude” (likeness). Avoid even the appearance of evil. Better to be sneered at as a puritan, than to be despised as a hypocrite.” Spurgeon 1 Thessalonians 5:22 (NLT) “Stay away from every kind of evil.”

39
Numbers 10:1–10 (NLT) 1 Now YaHWeH said to Moses, 2 “Make two trumpets of hammered silver for calling the community to assemble and for signaling the breaking of camp. 3 When both trumpets are blown, everyone must gather before you at the entrance of the Tabernacle. But if only one trumpet is blown, then only the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel— must present themselves to you.
41
Numbers 10:8-9 Then YaHWeH your God will remember you and rescue you from your enemies. 8 Only the priests, Aaron’s descendants, are allowed to blow the trumpets. This is a permanent law for you, to be observed from generation to generation. 9 “When you arrive in your own land and go to war against your enemies who attack you, sound the alarm with the trumpets. Then YaHWeH your God will remember you and rescue you from your enemies.
42
Numbers 10:10 10 Blow the trumpets in times of gladness, too, sounding them at your annual festivals and at the beginning of each month. And blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and peace offerings. The trumpets will remind YaHWeH your God of his covenant with you. I am YaHWeH your God.”
44
Numbers 6:22-27 22 Then YaHWeH said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: 24 May Yahweh bless you and protect you; 25 may Yahweh make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 may Yahweh look with favor on you and give you peace. (HCSB) I Myself will bless them 27 Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in My name, I Myself will bless them.”
