Running Event Practice All practices for running events (sprints & distance) will be held during the athletic period: 7:30-8:20 = 7th grade boys 7:30-8:20 = 7th grade boys 2:30-3:15 = 8th grade boys 2:30-3:15 = 8th grade boys

After School Practices ALL TRACK ATHLETES will participate in after school workouts from 3:15-4:00pm (M - TH) at least 2 days a week: Field events (throws, jumps, hurdles, & relays) Strength & agility training Makeup morning workouts

Boys Field Event Practices High Jump (Baker) - MW LJ/TJ (Watkins) - MW Shot Put (Davis) - TTH Pole Vault (Womack) - MTWTH Hurdles (Gibbs) - MTWTH Discus (Davis) - MW Relays will be held at SMU track one day a week 6:30am for the 8 th graders and 6:45am for the 7 th graders.

Track Policies Each athlete will try out for each meet in a desired event/s. We will take the top 3 athletes and an occasional alternate runner to each meet. 2016 - HPMS Track Schedule Wed. - March 2nd – 8 th Grade Boys only (Germany Park) Fri. – March 4th - Team Picture Day Thurs. - March 17th – Quad City Meet (Prosper HS) Thurs. - March 24th - Princeton Meet (Princeton HS) Thurs – March 31 st - HP Hosted Meet (McKinney North) Tues. - April 5th – 7 th Grade Boys only (Germany Park) Friday – April 15 th – District Meet (Ron Poe Stadium, McKinney)

Equipment Good pair of running shoes Spikes Sweats or tights (top & bottom) Hat, gloves Water bottle Shorts, t-shirts Blanket, coat, etc. for meets when it is cold HPMS will issue sweats and track uniform for those participating in track.

Track Shoes *Running Shoes- shoes are the most important piece of equipment for track. **Spikes- if the athlete is going to participate in hurdles, jumping or sprinting (100-200M), we recommend a pair of spikes. The spikes don't replace the running shoes but may be worn during time trials and/or the meet. Parents: New shoes and/or spikes are not mandatory.

Day of the Track Meet (typical – times will vary) Athletes will be dismissed around 2pm (depending on the meet distance and start time) to the locker rooms. The athletes are to dress in uniform and sweats, then get on the buses. We provide students w/ transportation to and from the meet. After their events, athletes are allowed to leave w/ a parent, but must sign out w/ one of the coaches first. Athletes should bring snack foods and fluids. Concession stands are also usually available too. We expect to get back from the meets on the bus around 10pm.
