Animoto http://animoto.com/ You need to create an account (watch younger students for creating accounts. Some song content is mature). 1.Go to create. Uploading pictures has been fussy lately. You may want to use clipart or ones the website provides. 2.Choose a style-Make sure it is not a premium (paid) style. 3.Choose “Make a 30 second video for free”. 4.You can change song by clicking on the song title. Preview them first. 5.You have a variety of ways to add pictures. Make sure ones you find are royalty free or use Microsoft clip art. The site also has a limited video and image library. 6.When you type words, you are limited to a certain amount of letters, spaces, and/or numbers.

Bubbl.us If you sign up for an account, you have a limited number of webs you can save. However, you can use unlimited and print. If you haven't signed in, click the large blue "Start" button in the center of the page. Again, keep in mind that if you have not signed in, you will not be able to save or share your work. Type your central topic into the yellow bubble. This is the start of your brainstorming tree. It should contain the most general idea you're considering, since sub-ideas and sub-sub- ideas will stem from it. Hit the 'Tab' button on your keyboard to create another idea on the same level-This will appear to the right of your main topic. Hit the 'Command + Enter' buttons (hold command, press Enter) to create an idea on a sub-level. This idea will show up as a different-colored bubble. Expand your tree by repeating the previous actions ('Tab' or 'Command + Enter') on different idea bubbles.

Bubbl.us Move, change, or delete ideas. If your ideas change, so can your brainstorming tree. The bubbl.us tree will automatically reposition itself to fit your ideas, but if you'd like a custom change, you can move bubbles around or delete them: To move a bubble, simply click and drag to reposition. Note: To edit an idea, simply click and re-type. Pressing Enter will allow you to expand your bubble vertically. To change or delete an idea bubble, hover over it with your mouse until a formatting pop-up appears. From here, you may connect it to another bubble, change the font size, change the color of the bubble, or delete it. Print. If you are signed in, Save your work. Click the arrow next to the "Save" button in the upper right-hand side of the workspace. Choosing "Save As..." will allow you to rename the sheet. (The default name is "New Page".) Note: There is also a box in the Save menu for automatic saving every 2 minutes. It is recommended that you leave this box checked to protect your work.

Bubbl.us Share your tree with others. You can share your brainstorming tree as a read-only file, or you can allow others to edit it. Read-only sharing: In the upper right- hand corner, the "Sharing" button allows you to share a read-only link to your tree on bubbl.us or embed the tree in HTML (for use on other websites). To share a read-only link, you will be prompted to either copy the link URL or enter email addresses of friends you wish to share with. Collaborative sharing: In order to work together with others on bubbl.us, the users you wish to share with must have their own bubbl.us accounts. Once you're sure this is the case, click the drop-down arrow next to the Contacts button on the right hand panel. When prompted, you must enter their names, usernames, or email addresses in the "Add Contacts" pop-up. Picture and words http://www.piclits.com/compose_dragdrop.aspx Works on all mobile devices. Sign up for an account. Choose a picture from the scrolling bar or click see more to choose a picture. DRAG-N-DROP: Drag words from the provided list and drop them anywhere you’d like onto the image you have chosen. After you drop a word, you can choose to capitalize it or use a different form of it by clicking on the small arrow that appears. As you change pictures, the available words change to better fit the theme of the picture. FREESTYLE: Type in your own words manually below the image and they will appear on top of the photo. Make sure not to type too many words on one line or they will get cut off. You can play with the space bar to manipulate the placement of the text on the image. If you get stuck, there is a list of keywords there to help. Save to personal gallery, blog or share, and email are the available options. It emails as an html link. Uses: can be a caption, a sentence, a story, a paragraph, a poem, a rap, a quotation, lyrics from a song to explain a photo LEARN IT tab on the home page has some lesson ideas. Uses: Practice online safety with limiting personal info on a social network site, describe a fictional character or nonfiction concept/topic NOTE: Recommended for grade 4 and up!

Tagxedo http://www.tagxedo.com/ Click on create (top right hand corner). Click on load (left hand side). You can choose a word file you have saved with words, a website, or type words in the box. Easiest: Add words to the add text box and submit. A ~ between words keeps them together. Change shapes by clicking on shape. There are a limited amount of shapes you can choose. Clicking on the circling arrow next to themes, font, orientation, and layout, or all at the same time. This changes each creation until you get the desired effect. There is a delay while it processes. Word/Layout option allow you to delve into the advanced features and choose features you do/don’t want. Under Save/ Share, you an print, or save by clicking on image tab (choosing a pdf option seems to work the best). Uses: Describe an item, book, character, or topic and relate the shape chosen to the theme of the words Moving your mouse over the words in the completed Tagxedo will make them appear closer and larger.

Wordle HINT:cannot be used on Chrome books http://www.wordle.net/create Easy: Copy and paste text from word that you have typed or type desired words in the box. The more times you type the word, the bigger it will appear. Putting a tilda (~) between words you want to stay together will keep them grouped with a space between. Advanced: Using the “Advanced” feature in Wordle allows you to vary the size of specific words by assigning values to the words. Type the word, the type a colon (:) and the number size you would like your word to appear as. The value can be between 15-165 Assign high numbers to the most important words & lower numbers to the least important words The higher the number assigned to a word, the larger & more prominent that word or phrase will appear in the Word Cloud

Wordle continued Once you click Go and wait for the wordle to appear, play with the features above the box (font, layout, color) to find desired effect. Or you can click on the randomize button below the box. Make sure you save to public gallery. The add a name (first name only or made up username) or anonymous and a title. If you want to embed on a site, copy the code under the wordle. Or you may copy the url. If you do not save to public gallery, you will not be able to find your wordle again! Uses: Create a card with words and wishes for the recipient Describe a famous historical figure or book character List titles and author of favorite books, spelling words, words related to a certain topic or book Begin a lesson with a Wordle. Students discuss vocabulary and predict the important topics in a lesson. Students can create questions based on the Wordle. Students analyze their own writing. Record what students ate for lunch, put it into Wordle and see the most popular items. Discuss nutrition, etc. Create biographies. Pull out vocabulary from a story or lesson. IMPORTANT: Puzzle titles are limited to 49 characters. 2. Enter the size of your word search puzzle Your puzzle can be up to 40 letters by 40 letters and still fit on one page. The optimum puzzle size is 15 letters by 15 letters. 3. Enter your words Separate your words with commas, spaces or type each word on a new line. Any character that is not a letter will be considered a space. 6. Check your puzzles Puzzlemaker uses a word filter to prevent the random creation of offensive words. After you create your puzzle, proofread it carefully to check for the placement of unintended words created by random letter combinations. You can regenerate your puzzle by selecting the "Back" button in your browser and pressing the "Create" button again.

Word Wall (Padlet) http://padlet.com/ Padlet is an online graffiti wall where teachers and students can have discussions, share web links, post notices, collect feedback, or watch and share videos. Padlet accounts are free and you can make as many walls as you like. Students do not have to create an account to post on your walls. The notes you post can contain links, videos, images, and document files. It is possible for students to post using any Internet connected device.

Setting up your Padlet To Begin - Click the + sign to create a wall Now, Click MODIFY WALL By double clicking anywhere on the wall you can begin adding elements to the wall. On the right side of the page change the following elements: Profile - Add a title, description and portrait Wallpaper - Choose your wall background from the preloaded images or upload your own. Layout - Choose Freeform or Stream (everything is chronological with Stream) Privacy If you want to save your Padlets create an account and under privacy make them hidden link. This allows only users that have the URL to edit the Padlet. How students access Padlet Once created, students can access by going to the url created by padlet or if it is embedded on your site. Students just double click on the wall to add comments. NOTE: You will need to tell students to add their name to their entry since there is no way to track.

Word Wall/Padlet Uses Class introductions – Ask students to post a brief bio, quirky fact about themselves, and/or favorite hobby to introduce themselves to the class. Icebreakers – Post an icebreaker question on a wall and invite students to get to know one another and build community. Inquiry – Before starting a unit of study, drive inquiry and ask students to post questions they have about the topic. Previous knowledge – Ask students to brainstorm everything they know about a topic before they begin studying it. Predictions – Allow students to predict how a book will end, what the outcome of a science lab/experiment will be, or what the impact of an event in history on other countries will be. These are fun to revisit once a book is finished or a lab is completed. Context clues – Post a picture of a person, culturally significant scene or moment from history and ask students to explore and discuss context clues. Finish the story – Post a story line and ask students to continue the story with words and images. Vocabulary development – Post words on the board and ask students to collaboratively add definitions, synonyms and pictures to help all students better understand the vocabulary. Label – Post a picture of a cell, piece of art work, or map and ask students to label the parts with names and information.
