Unsustainability  rising populations & resource consumption  poverty & debt  resource depletion  pollution & global climate change …

Two definitions ‘ Being able to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’ ‘Enough for All forever’

Nature is cyclical; there is virtually no waste in the natural world that does not provide food for other living systems. We need to create an economy that duplicates nature's cycle - where the waste from one process is the food for another. Paul Hawken

Greg came to Darwin with the RAAF in 1972. Unlike most of the other heritage houses on the base, the single men’s quarters – where he lived for 2 years - are still there.

I came to Darwin in January 1974. I lived in a house similar to this in Wood Street.

Mainly Chinese market gardeners supplied Darwin with fruit and vegetables throughout the years before NT ‘ self-government’.

Greg in the rural area He left the RAAF Reclaimed his right to collect ‘stuff’. Bought a Holden ute and a hoist. Diana in the rural area She took her pig, ducks and son to live the good life.

l As land-carers we show respect and concern for the ecosystems we humans rely on … l We sustainably develop our environment : To Conserve the Earth’s vitality & diversity and To improve the quality of human and other lives

Sheds made from re- used materials. No harmful chemicals used

Environmental Recyclers NT began in 2002 We worked through other non- profit environmental organisations We joined sustainable business groups We joined the Greens

Protecting biodiversity helps us to safeguard our food supply. Our food supply is at risk when we depend on a small number of species.

Feeding the World resource use Agribusiness supports capital intensive chemical use and wide-scale land exploitation for profit. Small-scale organic and permaculture farms ‘reduce, re-use and recycle’ their resources to nourish the land.

Use land and water carefully Don’t practise or endorse colonialism Consume within carrying capacity limits and Don’t waste finite resources

Respecting biodiversity A biodiverse ecosystem has species resilient to new challenges. An ecosystem lacking biodiversity is more likely to collapse.

Become informed. Know what you’re buying, where it was produced, under what work conditions. What was the impact on the environment? Support ethical businesses that supply  organic food and clothing,  Recycled, re-manufactured building materials  and forest stewardship-approved timber or timber products. Grow your own organic food. Stop using household pesticides/insecticides.

Making mountains…Destroying mole-hills

ReformistRadical

We need more than words – to go where no human has gone before – to work together - to tell our political leaders ‘ Enough!!’ AND to put our thoughts and questions into ACTION.
