2 Participial Phrases A verbal phrase That means it’s a word that is normally a verb, but here is acting differently Participials are verbs acting as adjectives Ex: Running on the ice, I slipped and fell.

3 Types of Part. Phrases Past Participial Ends in –d or –ed Also can be formed irregularly Ex: The photo, taken by my father, is beautiful Ex: The designs, improved by the architect, made the building more expensive.

4 Types Con’t Present Participial End in –ing Ex: Launching the first moving assembly line, Ford revolutionized the auto industry.

5 HOT TIP Participial can be taken out of the sentence, and the basic meaning of the sentence will remain. Think of it this way: you can PART out a car, so you can PART out a PARTICIPIAL
