2 Marketing and IT for your Basketball Association Website – see this as your shop front and library. Database – this is valuable – spend the time. Social Media – highlights aspects, increases revenue and points to website. Newsletters – great to keep members informed. Email is simple and cost effective these days. Direct correspondence to your key personnel – eg. volunteer group, coaching team, referee group, etc. Text Contacts – group apps are ideal to keep people informed easily. Strategic Alliances – consider partnering with organisations that work with (but don’t compete in) the same target markets – eg. sports stores, venues, suppliers, etc. Complete marketing strategies are great for Partners and Sponsors.

3 Recruitment of New Members Word of mouth – the best form of marketing. Ensure you offer a good product. Develop relationships with the schools – primary and high schools – utilise their marketing mediums. Develop relationships with councils – utilise their marketing mediums. Marketing through other activities – eg. camps, other events, senior games, SEABL. Media – utilise press coverage, free adverts, Community Service notices.

4 Social Media Facebook – every association should have a Facebook page now. Instagram – every association should have a Instagram presence in 12 months time. Team App – every association should have a Team App in 12 months time. Twitter – every association should have a Twitter presence in 2 year’s time. You Tube – create your own channel and start uploading videos including match highlights, player interviews and more. These can then be promoted through your other marketing efforts. Issues for the above…..time……appoint appropriate people – great jobs for young and keen members to become involved. Must ensure that your monitor and control the content on social media.

5 Other opportunities to consider that will assist your marketing Club merchandising – eg. hoodies, t-shirts, etc. Printing posters for key events, recruitment, etc. Consider paying for images to be done professionally – eg. logos, posters, etc. Calendar – produce a calendar that allows members to plan ahead and ensures the association is organised. Market research – learn about your members – eg. demographics, etc. Feedback – interview existing members, interview lapsed members, research other clubs, interview potential members. Target Marketing (not mass market marketing). Develop a Marketing Plan. Undertake a SWOT analysis of your association. Marketing Mix – Product, Price, Promotion and Place.
