2 LEVY ELECTION 2013 Our Mission The mission of the Camas School District is to provide students with the ability to communicate effectively, use technology, reason, be self-confident, possess mental and physical health, and work effectively with others. In broader terms, our mission is to create a learning community where staff, students, and citizens are involved jointly in the advancement of knowledge and personal growth. “Camas Schools… a Tradition of Caring and Quality”

3 LEVY ELECTION 2013 What will be voted on?  Two measures:  Educational Programs, Maintenance and Operations Levy  Educational Programs, Technology Levy  Replaces expiring levies – this is not a new tax  Four year levies  Funds important student programs and services – Levy = Learning  Ballots will arrive January 24 – must be returned by February 12, 2013

4 LEVY ELECTION 2013 How do levy dollars benefit students?  SMALLER CLASS SIZES–Additional staffing to help maintain low class size  TEXTBOOKS AND CURRICULUM MATERIALS–math, science, English, and history textbooks, including novels, materials for reading and writing instruction, and supplemental teaching materials for all subjects  STUDENT SAFETY–including our School Resource Officer, security systems and cameras, security personnel/supervision, safety fencing, drug and alcohol intervention programs, anti-bullying programs

5 LEVY ELECTION 2013 How do levy dollars benefit students?  GROUNDS, MAINTENANCE, AND UTILTIES–costs for maintenance and custodial services, grounds, heating and lighting our buildings and fields, insurance, transportation  ALL EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES–including athletics, band, choir, dramatic productions, and academic teams such as Knowledge Bowl, Science Olympiad, and FIRST Robotics  SPECIAL EDUCATION–adaptive equipment for children with special needs, staff including teachers, paraprofessionals and counselors, textbooks, supplies and materials needed for special services programs  STUDENT HEALTH–all nurses, health room paraprofessionals, health screenings, and student health plans for medically fragile children

6 LEVY ELECTION 2013 How do levy dollars benefit students?  ACCELERATED PROGRAMS–training for advanced placement courses, world language classes, Science Olympiad programs for grades 3-12, FIRST Robotics program, Math, Science and Technology Magnet program, elementary highly capable programs, middle school Honors/Pre-AP programs  TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT–all personnel to support educational and information technology used throughout every school  PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING–all workshops, seminars, and any related special training for our staff  SCHOOL LIBRARIES—Library staff, library books, curriculum and reference materials

8 LEVY ELECTION 2013 Replacement levy totals M & O will collect:  2014: $11.45 million  2015: $11.80 million  2016: $12.20 million  2017: $12.75 million Technology will collect:  2014: $1,289,739  2015: $1,299,739  2016: $1,329,739  2017: $1,349,739

9 LEVY ELECTION 2013 Even though the M & O levy rate is a slight increase over the previous levy, the actual TOTAL COMBINED rates for all school taxes will DECREASE. Current Levy Estimated Tax Rates Renewal Levies - Estimated Tax Rates

13 LEVY ELECTION 2013 PLEASE VOTE!  Your ballots will be mailed to you on January 24, 2013  Your ballots must be postmarked by February 12, 2013  There are certain exemptions from this tax. Call the Clark County Assessor’s Office at (360) 397-2391 for more information.
