RICH Readout Plans F. Bucci, M. Piccini on behalf of the RICH WG

Remarks The NA62 RICH did not take part both in the dry run and the technical run The RICH TEL62 has been used by the RICH group for the CHOD The RICH hasn’t had yet the chance of setting up and test its final readout system. TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci2

Electronics to be tested Need to test the 2000 PMs all together with the full electronics chain: New HV dividers New HV distribution boards CAEN SY1527 and boards New FE (NINO) boards New DAQ system based on TEL62 TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci3

First Step Exploit the COSMORICH setup to test 414 PMs all together with a DAQ system based on the TEL62 board Aim: Set up the RICH DAQ system based on the TEL62 (adapt the CHOD firmware for the RICH case and test the RICH firmware in a multi-channel environment) TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci4

The COSMORICH Set Up A proximity focusing Cherenkov detector for cosmic rays TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci Aerogel bricks as radiator RICH prototype spherical mirror used in ‘flat mode’ RICH prototype Winston cones and PMs disks to collect and detect the reflected light  mirror air Winston Cones disk PM disk aerogel 40 cm “vessel” light tight, not gas tight

The COSMORICH Set Up TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci6

Modify the COSMORICH Set Up Remove the aerogel bricks and use a laser to illuminate all the PMs TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci7  mirror air Winston Cones disk PM disk aerogel

Hardware Count In Florence: 1 TELL1 and 4 TDCB V2 used in the 2009 RICH test beam 15 ‘old black’ cables used in the 2009 RICH test beam In Perugia: 1 TEL62, 2 TDCB V4 and 8 ‘new’ cables (requiring patch panels) used in the next few months to test the PMs TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci8 Still missing: 2TDCB V.4 2 patch-panels to match the 24 channels multiplicity of the old NINO boards to the 16 channels multiplicity of the TEL62 8 ‘new’ cables from the patch panels to the TEL62 1 TEL62 in Florence with at least 1 TDCB V4 to start setting up the test system (borrow one under repair when available)

Next Step Build a closed box (say 1.5x1.0x2.0 m), light tight, where on one side the two “PM lodging” disks with the 2000 PMs can be “plugged” and on the opposite side a pulsed laser can be inserted Aim: Test all the chain (new HV dividers, new HV distribution boards, new FE boards) Same cabling and almost same distances as in the final detector Calibrate (t0s, slewing) all the PMs: first alignment before RICH installation Advanced aim: Make the TEL62 boards talk to each other to build the L0 primitives TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci9

Setup for PMs+electronics Test in Lab SY1527 Rack 3 Laser 1000 PMs 1.5 m HV patch FE NINO FE Nino HV patch 2 m Rack 1 HV patch FE NINO FE Nino HV patch Rack 2 DAQ TEL62 Closed Box

Hardware Timescale HV dividers: beginning of 2013 HV distribution boards: beginning of 2013 FE (NINO) boards: end of spring 2013 FE crates to be bought (2013) TEL62 and TDCBs to be bought (2013) TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci11

Conclusions Next year we need to set up and test the RICH final readout system: the 2000 PMs all together with the full electronics chain. The whole set up not ready before the summer. The COSMORICH is an already available experimental set up which allows to adapt and develop the CHOD firmware for the RICH case. Keen to have a TEL62 and at least 1 TDCB in Florence as soon as they are available to test the read out chain in a high rate and high multiplicity environment. TDAQ WG meeting, 11/12/2012 F. Bucci12
