1 Focus: Why did countries choose or not choose sides during the Cold War? Do Now: Review – Why were African and Asian regions colonized by Europeans? List 3 colonizers and some of the places they colonized. HW: Start your research in the Global Review Book first (pages 226-232 and 279-287 and 300-307 in the small red book). Write down what happened, important events, terms, people.

Decolonization a.causes Nationalism of colonized peoples, Pan-Africanism in Africa, WW2 exhausted Europeans, US Atlantic Charter pushed for autonomy of Imperial colonies b. examples Ghana achieved independence peacefully, Vietnam had to fight the French c. effects some countries became caught up in the Cold War when different groups in the country sought help from either the Communists or Capitalist nations
