1 Year 8 Spanish Lesson 1 – September

2 Hoy vamos a apreneder….. TODOS LA MAYORÍA ALGUNOS Will know the classroom expectations. Will practise Spanish pronunciation. Will have their book organised and ready for the year.

3 Classroom Expectiations 1) Wait outside quitely, in correct uniform until asked to come in. 2) Sit down quietly and get out all your equipment, book, planner, pencil case. 3) Put your bags under the table. 4) Try your best in lessons at all times. 5) Have a go at answering when you are asked; ‘I don’t know’ is not an acceptable answer. 6) Respect everyone else in the class – listen when someone else is speaking. 7) Bring all equipment to lessons. 8) Keep your work neat and well organised –Always put a date and title and underline it. Rule off after you have finished a piece of work. Do not waste space! Note down homework in your planner.

4 Cuadernos – Exercise Books Stick the level sheet and explanation of level sheet on the inside cover and first page of your book. Stick the ‘sticker’ translation sheet on the next page Stick the pronunciation guide for Spanish on the next page.

5 Pronunciation

6 Spanish Pronunciation. - say every letter. - if there are no accents – you stress the second to last syllable – think inteligente. - if there is an accent you stress that syllable – think fantástico, NOT fantastico! - most letters sound like they do in English – EXCEPT! A – ah, E-eh, I = ee, O = oh, U= ouuu V = b J= h Z = th (Spain) = z (South America) LL = y RR = rrrrr( roll the tongue) CC- kth QU = K C and G are a bit tricky as it depends on the letter after. Ce - th – or –s in South America CI - th Co - k Ca – k Cu - k Ge – h Gi – h Ga – g Go – g Gu - g There are very few double letters in Spanish – only L,C R Think how you say Kitchen - cocina

7 Take a dictionary – find these words and work out how you will pronounce them – you might remember the words from last year Pencil Pen Exercise book Paper Rubber Scissors Dictionary Chair Lapiz Bolígrafo Cuaderno Papél Goma Tijeras Diccionario Silla

8 Can you remember how to ask for something in Spanish? I haven’t got Have you got..? Please No tengo Tienes …..? Por Favor LET’S TRY AND USE SPANISH IN LESSONS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE – USE YOUR LEARNING MAT AND THE PAGE IN YOUR PLANNER AND THE WALLS TO HELP YOU!

9 Vocab Recap On your tables on your big piece of paper try to come up with 8 words for each of the following categories. Colores Animales Familia Deportes Adjectivos Verbos Asignaturas Lugares en la cudad Habitaciones en la casa
