2. Origins Between 1600 and 1865 millions of Africans were captured and transported across the Atlantic and sold as slaves in the Americas.

4. How the slaves lived Slaves were not considered as people. They were objects and their owners bought and sold them at markets. Slaves were not paid but they worked very hard and with this system white people became very rich.

6. Abraham Lincoln He was the 16th President of the United States of America, who fought against slavery. On January 1st,1863 President Lincoln issued the final Emancipation Proclamation freeing all slaves in territories held by the Confederate States. Finally in 1865 the Civil War ended with the issue of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1865 which made Slavery illegal. 7. Gandhi Gandhi was born in 1869 in India. He freed the indian population from English dictatorship not with weapon, but with words. He became famous for his non-violent protest.

8. Nelson Mandela He was born in 1918. He was arrested for his ideals in 1862. He won also the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1993

9. Martin Luther King Martin Luther King Jr. was born in 1929. In 1955 he led the first great black non violent dimostration in the United States. On April 4 th, 1968, he was assassined on the balcony of a motel in Menphis.

10. What kind of slavery we can find today Today we can consider child labor, prostitution, web addiction, early and forced marriages, alcoholism other forms of slavery. Although some types of people exploitation is not often called slavery, the conditions of some people are the same: they are sold like objects, forced to work for little or no pay and are at the mercy of their employers.
