Context September 2012 – 65 children in 3 classes A new team…1 coming from FS, 1 in second year in KS1 and 1 from upper key stage 2! The issue… -Lack of consistency across a key stage with children from the same year group in different classes. -End of key stage APS showing a decline or lack of stability over time…

Aims -Improve the consistency of practice across all aspects of the curriculum. -Raise standards and expectations -Improve outcomes for each child by the end of the key stage, therefore improving APS -Embed new practice -Revolutionise!

Aspects which have been focussed on… -New initiatives implemented: spelling, mentoring practice. -Created new long term plans for KS1 -Extended writing sessions -Cross class moderating -Consistency of practice Improving outcomes for children -Focus on a task children can find challenging -Improving children’s basic skills -Creating relevant links between topics, increasing interest -All children across the key stage access the same opportunities

Aspects which have been focussed on… Reading and Phonics -Implementation of new guided reading in KS1 -Support of a colleague leading and developing phonics across the school, including staff training and resourcing -Consistency of practice Improving outcomes for children -Development of a key skill -Improving reading and writing skills and phonetic knowledge -Access to the same high standard teaching across the key stage

Aspects which have been focussed on… Marking and Feedback -Introduction of new methods -Involving children in the process -Developing AfL practice -Consistency of practice Improving outcomes for children -Involving children in the process -Making feedback relevant -Allowing them to access feedback and improve work using it -Bringing the discussion into everyday situations

Outcomes -Consistency across all key areas – children from the same year group can access the same opportunities. -Informal monitoring visits between all teachers, checking on resources/teaching methods and sharing practice. -High expectations for all children both in their work and behaviour. -Re-focussing on progress and accountability for this. -Improved opportunities for children across all aspects of school life. -Children achieving well at the end of the key stage…

September 2013 - context 65 children in 3 classes 2 of the 3 members of teaching staff on maternity leave by 30 th September! What happened… 2 teachers replaced by 2 NQTs Policies and procedures set up in year 1 continued and built upon.

September 2014 - context 64 children in 3 classes 2 maternity leaves returning as a job share A new team AGAIN… KS1 leader, Class 2 (Year 2) teacher and another NQT What happened… Liaised with previous KS1 leader to ensure consistency of practice. Policies and procedures set up in year 1 & 2 continued and built upon.
