4. READIng is THInking! For each of the novels, magazines, websites, poetry, short stories, news articles, journals, and/or comic books, we read this quarter, the experience, the interpretation, and ultimately, the meaning, will be different. =

5. Reading Forecast As we read this quarter, I want you to follow these directions during lessons: 1.Be open to liking or disliking what you are reading. Try to stay away from being indifferent. Formulate an opinion and substantiate it for each work of art that is read. 2.Be thoughtful, critical and reflective!!! 3.Some questions for discussion will be opinion and some will have correct answers. Take both seriously. 4.Read everything once without reading the question beside or under it. Don’t worry about anything but what you are reading on that first read. Focus only on reading and thinking about its meaning. 5.On the second read, evaluate what’s being asked in the question. ALWAYS HAVE THIS SECOND READ!

6. Let Your Imagination Flow! The past time of reading has always encouraged the imagination. If you are reading a book correctly, you let the experience leap into your heart. You allow the words to flow across your imagination, shaping it. The book may be guiding you, but you must create the image in your head. A true author shapes the world with assistance of his or her readers, they do not control the world.

9. WHAT’S IN YOUR SUITCASE? Great readers approach reading with a “suitcase full of strategies.” This class will prepare you to fill your suitcase of strategies with helpful techniques to assist in understanding what you read.
