Biodiesel with the glycerine layer removed and ready for washing.

Add about 300-400 ml of water for washing out the residual soap that is suspended in the biodiesel.

After mixing in the water, slowly agitate the mixture for about 30 seconds or so and then let settle. Soapy water will settle out to the bottom the top layer is biodiesel.

During the washing process the biodiesel will look like orange juice.

When the wash water remains clear after shaking, all soap has been washed out. This may take 3 or 4 washings. Drain the water and begin the drying process.

The drying process (removing any remaining droplets of water suspended) involves bubbling the biodiesel, this will cause the diesel to become translucent. The higher that the oil titrates the “darker” the final product will be. It will be clear but will have an “apple juice color” to it. You can also set it outside in the sun or on a greenhouse bench to dry.

A reprocess test can be performed to check for conversion and quality.
