2. ‘’Rights for All Californians’’ Not all people enjoyed the same opportunities. Californians fought for fair housing laws. Sylvia Mendez- Mexican Americans- parents sued white school and won.

3. “Rights for All Californians” Martin Luther King, Jr. was a leader of the Civil Rights movement. Sylvia Mendez was the daughter of two parents who sued a white school district that wouldn’t let their Mexican American daughter in. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in major league baseball. Dolores Huerta formed a labor union in 1962. Yvonne Brathwaite Burke was the first African American woman to be elected to the United States House of Representatives. Dalip Singh Saund became the first Sikh immigrant from India, he worked to change the law. In 1956 Saund became the first Asian American member of congress. Cesar Chavez led a strike of grape pickers in the Central Valley town called Delano.
