AIAA Topic: New Event Model & Conferences The New Event Model (NEM) was approved by AIAA BoD in May The new forum (conference) meetings are  AIAA Science and Technology Forum  AIAA Defense and Security Forum  AIAA Aviation and Aeronautics Forum  AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum  AIAA Space and Astronautics Forum Goal is to begin implementation in January 2014 One more check to make sure the ASG TCs are aligned with the TCs that they want 3

AIAA Topic: New Event Model AIAA Staff is studying hotels/conference centers for size  Previously selected ASM hotels are planned for ASTF  Initial talks with SDM have taken place for 2014 Rolling out some features prior to 2014  ITAR sessions (US Only) at 2013 JPC  Aviation 2013 Forum Dates need clarification  ASTF Winter => January  ADSF Winter/Spring => January/February  AAAF Early Summer => Late June?  APEF Mid Summer => Late July?  ASAF Late Summer => Mid August? 4

AIAA Topic: Science and Technology Forum Aerospace Sciences Meeting Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference ASME Wind Energy Symposium Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference Adaptive Structures Conference Non-Deterministic Approaches Conference Gossamer Systems Forum Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Specialist Conference 5

AIAA Topic: Aviation and Aeronautics Forum Fluid Dynamics Conference (including Flow Control and Computational Fluid Dynamics) Thermophysics Conference Plasmadynamics and Lasers Conference Applied Aerodynamics Conference Aerodynamic Measurement Technology Conference Ground Testing Conference Atmospheric Flight and Space Mechanics Conference Modeling and Simulation Technologies Conference Atmospheric and Space Environments Conference Aviation 20XX Conference Aviation Technology, Integration, and Operations Conference Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization Conference Aerodynamic Decelerator Systems*/Balloons/Lighter-Than Air Conferences Flight Testing Conference Complex Aerospace Systems Exchange * 6

January 2013 ASM TAC Workshop is to focus on AIAA & Social Media Sites. (or something along those lines)  TC Chairs & Vice Chairs are expected to participate  Possible titles of Workshop – eAIAA – eConferencing (AIAA Forum concept with purely online sessions) – eMobility  Goal is to insert social technology into AIAA models – Conferences – TC/PC meetings – Workshops – Education (Continuing & STEM) – Public Policy  What tools exist? (e.g. Skype, WebEx, Facebook, YouTube, other)  What are the limitations? (e.g. Cost, access, number of participants, international vs. US)  Who to engage? (e.g. YPs, Education, Publications, AIAA IT staff)  New Initiatives Subcommittee (NIS) is responsible organizer 8 TAC Topic: 2013 TAC Workshop

TC Topic: Health Assessment How healthy is your TC? TC/PC Self Assessment  https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx  Search for the file “TAC_F_Committee Self Assessment_V02”  This is a good tool for seeing how your TC is doing Major items  Does your TC have a Charter?  Does your TC have a written manual or reference document?  A written process is needed if you select an award (e.g. best student paper, Aerodynamics or Thermophysics award).  How do members and others know what your TC is doing? Web Pages… 9

TC Topic: Web Pages Web Pages…  Each TC needs a web master and a back-up/helper  Great location to share information (e.g. minutes, charter, award process, photos)  This is your face to the outside world for new AIAA & TC members  Most ASG TC web pages are stale, forgotten orphans TAC web site  https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/default.aspx https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/default.aspx  Provides numerous documents (e.g. Chair manual, Self-Assessment) ASG web site  https://info.aiaa.org/tac/ASG/default.aspx https://info.aiaa.org/tac/ASG/default.aspx  Has links to the various TCs  Needs improvement 10

Questions & Comments 11

12

TC Topic: General Reminders Chair-Elect  For new chairs, TCs need to select a vice-chair in a timely fashion  There are two accepted practices for chair-elect timelines (see https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx TAC_P_Chairs Manual_V01) https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx  TC Chair position is for 2 years Member Responsibilities  Maintain current AIAA Membership (must be an AIAA member)  Recruit new TC members  Submit names for AIAA awards  Submit names for AIAA elected offices  Propose membership upgrades  Propose session papers for AIAA journals 13

TC Topic: General Reminders Technical Committee size  Maximum of 50 members  35 US Members  International members  Associated members 34 years old or younger (non-voting)  Alumni members (non-voting)  Must get approval of ASG Director or Dep. Director to extend TC member beyond 3 year term  Cost to AIAA when TC meeting attendance goes up – Dinner cost – Audio Visual (AV) and speaker system – Reason for limitation on number of “visitors” to TC meetings. 14

Web information TAC web site  https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/default.aspx https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/default.aspx ASG web site  https://info.aiaa.org/tac/ASG/default.aspx https://info.aiaa.org/tac/ASG/default.aspx TC/PC Self Assessment  https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/Shared%20Documents/Form s/AllItems.aspx https://info.aiaa.org/SC/TAC/Shared%20Documents/Form s/AllItems.aspx  TAC_F_Committee Self Assessment_V02  TAC_P_Chairs Manual_V01 15

16 ASG Topic: ASM, NHF & Aerospace Expo Site Selection now ASTF location 2013: Grapevine, TX (Gaylord Texan) 2014: Potomac, MD (Gaylord National) 2015: Orlando, FL (Gaylord Palms) 2016: San Diego, CA (Manchester Grand Hyatt) 2017: Grapevine, TX (Gaylord Texan) 2018: Orlando, FL (Gaylord Palms) Still scheduled for these hotels.
