Blood By Gweneth and Anna

Red Blood cells  Carries fresh oxygen throughout the body  Oxygen gives its red color  Hemoglobin - is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and returns carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs.  Red blood cells are made inside your bones in the bone marrow.  Red blood cells are round with a flattish with an indented center like doughnuts without a hole  Lack a nucleus and are part of the formed elements  Carries fresh oxygen throughout the body  Oxygen gives its red color  Hemoglobin - is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and returns carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs.  Red blood cells are made inside your bones in the bone marrow.  Red blood cells are round with a flattish with an indented center like doughnuts without a hole  Lack a nucleus and are part of the formed elements

White blood cells  White blood cells attack illness, diseases, bacteria and other foreign invaders  Take up 1% of blood  Has a nucleus, is a leukocyte cell  In bone marrow, white blood cells outnumber red blood cells  White blood cells live a short life they only a few days to a few weeks.  White blood cells attack illness, diseases, bacteria and other foreign invaders  Take up 1% of blood  Has a nucleus, is a leukocyte cell  In bone marrow, white blood cells outnumber red blood cells  White blood cells live a short life they only a few days to a few weeks.

Plasma  Plasma is the clear straw colored liquid portion of blood that remains after red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and other cellular components are removed.  It is the single largest component of human blood  comprising about 55 percent of blood  contains water, salts, enzymes, antibodies and other proteins.  Trans port nutrients, waste produces of metabolism, respiratoy gases, and hormones  Plasma is the clear straw colored liquid portion of blood that remains after red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and other cellular components are removed.  It is the single largest component of human blood  comprising about 55 percent of blood  contains water, salts, enzymes, antibodies and other proteins.  Trans port nutrients, waste produces of metabolism, respiratoy gases, and hormones

Platelets  Platelets are little pieces of blood cells.  Platelets help wounds heal and prevent bleeding by forming blood clots.  Your bone marrow makes platelets.  Problems can result from having too few or too many platelets, or from platelets that do not work properly.  Platelets are little pieces of blood cells.  Platelets help wounds heal and prevent bleeding by forming blood clots.  Your bone marrow makes platelets.  Problems can result from having too few or too many platelets, or from platelets that do not work properly.

Blood Groups  Universal donor is o blood because it doesn't have antibodies so it wont clot the donors blood  Universal recipient is AB because it have both A and B antigens

Immune  First line of defense is the neutrophils  Second line of defense is the monocytes  Third line of defense lymphocytes  T cells - a lymphocyte of a type produced or processed by the thymus gland and actively participating in the immune response.  HIV – damages your immune system. HIV interferes with your body's ability to fight the organisms that cause disease and is a sexually transmitted infection.  AIDS - a disease in which there is a severe loss of the body's cellular immunity, greatly lowering the resistance to infection and malignancy.  First line of defense is the neutrophils  Second line of defense is the monocytes  Third line of defense lymphocytes  T cells - a lymphocyte of a type produced or processed by the thymus gland and actively participating in the immune response.  HIV – damages your immune system.
