Quality System Morehead State University is not Six Sigma or ISO:9001 certified, however Career Services does follow many aspects of Total Quality Management which include:  1) Set target goals using national standards.  2) Monitor data gathered from events and Joblink.  3) Conduct weekly brainstorming sessions to improve services and activities.  4) Carefully consider customer specifications through the use of campus-wide surveys.  5) Communicate with departments across campus to streamline internal processes.  6) Utilize problem solving tools such as checklists to account for defects.  7) Utilize basic quality control charts such as run charts to map progress over time.

NACE Standards To maintain targets, Career Services utilizes the national standards or National Association of Colleges and Employers or NACE. The following areas of standards include:  Career Coaching, Advising, and Counseling.  Brokering, Connecting, and Linking.  Information Management.  Marketing, Promoting, and Performing Outreach.  Program and Event Administration.  Research, Assessment, and Evaluation.  Teaching, Training, and Education.

WEAVE Report  This report is a software program that is primarily used for Target tracking of outlined goals and measures.  Write expected outcomes/objectives. Establish criteria for support. Assess performance results. View assessment results. Effect improvements through actions.  Reports are run to check if previous targets are met.  This software measures the following processes within higher education facilities: 1) Assessment 2) Planning 3) Mapping 4) Program Review 5) Accountability  These measures are also discussed within weekly meetings.

WEAVE Report M3: Student career fair participation Career Services will count the number of students that attend each career fair. Source of Evidence: Administrative measure - other Target: Career Services hopes to increase student career fair attendance by 5% each year. Finding (2013-2014). Target: Partially Met Fall Career Fair attendance increased by 25% (293 to 367 from 2012 to 2013). Spring Career Fair attendance decreased by 48% (435 to 225 from 2013 to 2014). Reasoning: The decrease in attendance for the 2014 spring fair can largely be attributed to the inclement weather, which forced MSU to operate on a two-hour delay on the day of the fair. The 2013 Spring Career Fair attendance was also significantly greater than past fairs, which makes this drop look even more dramatic. Aside from this anomaly, student attendance has been on an upward trend since 2009, and, given the unique circumstances, this does not appear to be cause for alarm. CARS staff and its partners on the career fair committee will discuss options for dealing with scenarios such as this in the future. Related Action Plans (by Established cycle, then alpha): For full information, see the Details of Action Plans section of this report. Career Fair Inclement Weather Plan Established in Cycle: 2013-2014 Discuss options for future fairs with career fair committee. Decide if this time of year is the best/most appropriate, create a...

Kentucky Career Development Association  KCDA aids Career Services in developing relationships with employers throughout the state.  Mission Statement: dedicated to providing professional development and growth opportunities for career specialists and counselors, along with promoting professionalism and ethical practice, fostering communication and networking, and creating partnerships with organizations related to career development.  This helps Career Services build up JobLink with internships and job opportunities.  Each of the career counselors gathers information from employers when developing their events and improving their services.

Career Fair Statistics  All charts were created using data with years ranging from 2008- 2014 with numbers of employers and students in the Fall and Spring semesters.  All previous data only includes number of employers, which is why the range is relatively small.  The following charts used for the purposes of this presentation: 1) Pareto Chart 2) Scatter Plot Diagram 3) Pie Chart 4) Run Chart 5) Xbar – R Chart

Notes  The pareto chart outlines the reasons why cancellations have occurred since 2008. ‘No-Shows’ is the largest defect.  There is no correlation between employer and student attendance. The type of employers rather than quantity may be more of a deciding factor for student attendance.  Fall Career Fair attendance is steadily rising, while Spring attendance remains uncertain.  The decrease in students and employers in Spring 2014 was due to weather conditions.  Students and Employers are within their control limits, but there is more variation for Employers. This is most likely due to types of cancellations.

Recommendations  Enhance data collection for events such as Career Fairs and maintain consistent records.  Standards for types of data collection for events.  Use of problem solving tools such as the pareto chart, fishbone diagrams, gantt charts etc.  Monitor data more closely by either using online software for organization or a team huddle board.  Gain Six Sigma Yellow-Belt training in order to better understand problem solving tools for quality improvement.
