2 1. GENERAL PROCEDURE Of Paper Presentation Competition

3 Procedure ▣ Presenter should be in their formal attire during the presentation ▣ The final presentation should be in Power Point slides format and has to be in English ▣ Maximum total presentation time is 20 minutes with 15 minutes of paper presentation anf 5 minutes of Q&A ▣ Late attendance during the day of the event will receive 10 points deduction

4 Cont. ▣ On the day of the events, the candidates are required to bring along with them the following: ▣ One soft copy (on CD or USB) of their essay and presentation document ▣ 4 hard copies of their essay ▣ You are allowed to bring cue card to note/ remind you of important points for your paper presentation. DRESS CODE Friday: Batik Saturday: Semi Formal.

5 2. ORAL PRESENTATION

6 Procedure ▣ The presentation consist of two parts: First, the participant will present their paper without interruption for 10-15 minutes. Participant may start speaking when green card is held up. Time warnings will be given at the following intervals: A knock on the table will be sounded when 10 minutes has elapsed 2 knocks on the table will be ounded when there is 5 minutes remaining Continous knocking will be sounded if the 15 minutes time limit has reached Next, the judge will question the participant on their oral presentation for 5 minutes.

9 4. JUDGING

10 Judging ▣ The judging criteria will generally consist of: a) Depth, significance and originality of subject matter b) The paper portion of the competition will constitutes 50% of the final score, while the oral presentation for the remaining 50%.

12 The Judges ▣ The judging panel will consist of three judges, namely: Sutoyo Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at LIA Ciputat. Joined LIA in 1993. A graduate of English Department from IKIP Bandung Inggrid Galuh Mustikawati Graduated from Master degree of Political Science in Universiti Islam Antarbangsa, Malaysia in 2008. 13 Saskia Tjokro Indonesia Saskia is the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Coordinator Southeast Asia in United in Diversity. Received Bachelor of Technic Architecture in Trisakti University, Master of Management University of Gadjah Mada and Post-Graduate Degree from Erasmus Universiteit, The Netherlands. She started working as civil draft person in DP Architects, Singapore for two years. Specialized in project research, design, controlling and sustainable oriented solution development. Vast interest in South East Asian indigenous culture and eco-tourism. As consultant and researcher, she has served CYTEC (one of 100 world best Bloomberg stock valued company) on their usage of plastic in the future towards sustainability era in Asian market. She was also working with Maastricht Regent through Rotterdam School of Management on digital age. She was among business analyst team for green technology entrepreneur incubations in Rotterdam School of Management for innovations. In Indonesia, she was appointed by Akzonobel Dulux, Museum Gedung Dua 8, Pertamina Foundation, INPEX – Masela, the Ministry of Tourism Republic of Indonesia. 14 6. PENALTIES

15 Penalties ▣ Exceeding maximum word limit or failure to meet minimum word limit will receive 2 marks reduction penalty. ▣ Late submission of the written essay: a) One day late submission, participant will receive 10 points reduction to their total marks. b) More than one day late, essay will not be accepted and refund will not be given. ▣ Late attendance during the day of the event will receive 2 points reduction per 5 minutes lateness to their total marks. ▣ Participants, who do not turn up at all during the day of the competition, will be considered as forfeiting and refund will not be given.

16 TIPS AND TRICKS FOR PAPER PRESENTATION

17 TIPS AND TRICKS Get to the room a few minutes early to set up and test the equipment. Briefly state the problem or topic you will discuss Use the opening to catch the interest and attention of the audience. State the structure and main points of your argument explicitly of the audience.

18 TIPS AND TRICKS Be clear and concise Structure your talk around few points you want the audience to remember, which can be repeated multiple times. Do not overload slides with text Font size must be large enough to be read easily. Balance images and text Engage your audience with illustrations.

19 TIPS AND TRICKS Avoid reading from PowerPoint slides You will likely bore your audience. Try to establish eye contact with members of the audience Work to time You should always practice your presentation beforehand so that you know you’re able to cover everything you wish in you allotted time.

20 The conclucion should include a summary of the man points and leave the audience with something that is worth remembering and pondering TIPS AND TRICKS Rehearse your presentation Practice makes perfect!
