SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.1 PwC Methods & Risk Management Lesson Objectives Participants will be able to: Understand how methods can mitigate project risk Identify key aspects of PwC’s methodologies and know when to use which method on an engagement Develop an awareness of the emerging “PwC” methodology Understand PwC’s methodology transition strategy Evaluate best practices for managing methodology use on a project

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.2 How Do PwC Methods Mitigate Risk? Provide consistent, structured, practical solutions to: What needs to be done? When should it be done? How should it be done? How should it be controlled?

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.7 RP1: Develop Project Charter (SMM Phases A,B) Activities Create initial project team structure (i.e., Executive Committee, Steering Committee, Project Managers, Team Leaders) and engage executive stakeholders Create high level task plan Define project scope and high level “to-be” process model Create/validate business case (i.e., quantitative/qualitative, cost reduction/revenue enhancement) Identify critical security and system/process control requirements Define CSF’s and areas of project risk Kick off project and conduct project charter checkpoint

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.8 RP2: Establish Project Infrastructure (SMM Phases C,D,I) Activities Define and execute PTP baseline and set up initial SAP environment Define and implement system technical infrastructure, security, and operating procedures Establish quality management plan (QMP), measurement criteria, workplan, and operating procedures Install SAP specific template Define and administer core project team training

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.9 RP3: Strategy Definition & Alignment (SMM Phases C,H) Activities Further develop strategies/definitions to guide the following areas: –Iterative prototyping program and approach (e.g., scope, cycles, timing) –Data conversions –Interfaces –Reports and forms –SAP enhancements –Technology enablers –Security and controls –End user training and documentation –Testing Conduct define stage checkpoint

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.10 RP4: Define & Prototype Business Processes & Supporting Organisation (SMM Phases E,F,I,J,K,L,O) Activities Identify and engage business process stakeholders Conduct organisation element workshops and define key data structures Conduct “to-be” end user reports analysis Establish configuration working boundaries using the Implementation Management Guide (IMG) Define and implement change control procedures Prototype business processes, enabling SAP system configuration and supporting organisation Define end user security profiles consistent with business process/system design Review/revise existing facilities design in support of process/organisation model

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.11 RP5: SAP Scenario Testing (SMM Phase L) Activities Assemble test team Kick off overall test approach and test problem resolution (TPR) process Conduct SAP scenario methods and tools training Refine and execute SAP scenario test cycles Define and execute security test cycle Create initial go live, production support, and contingency plans Scenario walkthroughs

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.12 RP6: System Development (SMM Phases K,M,R,S) Activities Initiate legacy system clean up of transaction and master data, and prepare data for conversion to or interface with SAP Validate and prioritise development requests for requirements not supported by standard SAP functionality, including: –Data conversions –Interfaces –EDI, workflow, Internet/Intranet –User exits –Custom reports, forms, and other output Develop detailed design specifications Define batch operations and network schedule Complete system development Execute unit and string tests

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.13 RP7: Develop End User Training & Documentation (SMM Phase N) Activities Refine initial training strategy Establish training environment Design training programs Develop training prototype to serve as proof-of-concept for design Develop overall training program Pilot test training program and incorporate improvements into overall training program Deliver training program

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.14 RP8: Conduct System Testing (SMM Phases Q,T) Activities Assemble test team and kick off overall system test approach Conduct system test methods and tools training Refine system test plan and test problem resolution (TPR) process Develop system and stress test plans Prepare system/stress test clients Conduct stress and system testing Complete go live, production support, and contingency plans Initiate creation of production end user IDs Refresh production environment to a go live and ready state Conduct pre- and post-system test checkpoints

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.15 RP9: System Live (SMM Phase V) Activities Complete contingency plan Establish end user log on IDs and assign security profiles Execute end user training Execute site readiness checklists Complete and execute detailed go live plan

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.16 RP10: Support (SMM Phase W) Activities Execute organisational transition plans Execute production support plan Conduct post-implementation reviews

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.17 RP11: Project Management Activities (SMM Phases G,P,U) Activities Execute checkpoint reviews Build, manage, and track progress against overall project workplan Attract, retain, and develop team members Manage all project financials (e.g., contract, budget, billings) Support project communications, stakeholder management, team building, and skills/knowledge transfer Ensure two-way information flow both up and out beyond the project and down within the teams Drive disciplined, closed-loop issue identification and resolution Implement and support a quality management program (QMP) Ensure successful project delivery as specified in project charter

SAP Methods Context PRM1_02.19 Ensure client involvement, outward ownership and support in methodology selecting, tailoring and training. Tailor the methodology so deliverables can be leveraged throughout the project. Involve a methodology expert in the tailoring and training processes. Develop procedures manuals for users who will be performing the work and documenting the results (i.e., Prototyping, Interface Design). Provide comprehensive methodology training - soon before it will be used. Follow the methodology! Leverage other project deliverables (procedures, training materials, etc.) Obtain feedback from client on approach and documentation. Address concerns immediately as they arise. Use the macro Management aspects of the methodology (i.e., issue resolution, walkthroughs, system change request, change control form). Best Practices for Managing a Methodology
